We spy on "friends" as well. That's the nature of the game.

The cold war only ended in someone's imagination. Russia is still capable of, and eager to, inflict Marxism on the World. Right now, they are winning, big time!

In other news, Russia is still run by nasty people.
And the US is spying on all countries. ALL countries. The idea by the author of this article that the US ever stopped spying on Russia is ludicrous.

Sure, Israel probably does some intelligence collection. But if you think it compares in any way shape or form with the KGB/FSB's efforts you (and your briefer) are wildly misinformed.
A better question would be: What nation spies on other nations it trades with more than any other ? Answer is: France.
