SOURCES: FORMER PRESIDENT GERALD FORD'S HEALTH TAKES TURN FOR THE WORSE... DEVELOPING...
He served his country well. While he wasn't the lion of conservatism that the next Republican president was, he governed during very difficult times.
I'm not prematurely burying him. But it's pretty apparent that he won't be with us too much longer. I hope his last days, weeks, or even months are painless and peaceful. It's sad to see the body wear out, but it's inevitable.
I saw him in Vail a few summers ago at the outdoor theater named in his honor.
He looked frail , but, still treated those who wanted to stop and say hello with friendliness and grace.
"Gerald Rudolph Ford was born Leslie King Jr. in Omaha, Neb., on July 14, 1913, the only child of Leslie and Dorothy Gardner King. His parents were divorced in 1915. His mother moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., and married Gerald R. Ford. The boy was renamed for his stepfather."
Not exactly.
I voted for Carter in my 1st grade mock election...only because we shared the same last name! I've regretted it all my life. LOL
I add my prayers to yours for the good President and his family.
I saw him speak in Rochester NY, at an international symposium.
He was very eloquent and just had that "dignified" aura about him. Of course some POS liberal college student stood up and talked to him as if he were a mere college instructor. She was so undignified she was given boos.
President Ford, acted and treated her illogical question with dignity and grace, and answered the question as if it had any serious merit.
The man helped us through a tough time, a real American statesman.
I'd not complain if a loved one (not to mention a national treasure) went at 93!
You just praise God he was born at all; praise God again that he lived so well; praise God again that we had him so long.
That said, I trust the Lord won't harvest this good soul any sooner than absolutely necessary.
Thank God I wasn't eligible to vote in 1976, I would have voted for Carter, of course then I really didn't know the difference between Republicans and Democrats. And Ford ticked me off with his "Soviets don't dominate Poland" statement in the debates.
I remember it well, along with how they portrayed Jimmah as the nice guy, the savior, with the permanent Cheshire cat grin on his face. And, as a first time voter, I fell for it. Jimmah, the first, and last, Democrat I ever voted for.
But I at least knew the difference between a Republican and a Democrat. My grandfather told me that Democrats are the ones that created canned biscuits and all the other evils in the world.
ping
with Carter and Ford in their 80's and 90's I've thought a bit about Reagan's funeral.
I don't expect anywhere near the outpouring for Ford, and I guess he will be first to go.
How awful would it be for me to hope there is little or no outpouring of "the common man" for Carter.
Carter has done a great dis-service to this country - first as president then continuing as the worst ex-president in history.
God's Speed Gerald R. Ford... you have served us well.
That is a great quote.

Stolen from Barry Goldwater.
Thank you for the personal thought. I always felt they were great people and it is nice to have that confirmed....prayers for him and his family....
I wouldn't be surprise if Rummy or DicK Cheney show up to his funeral
Prayers for the former President!
Yeah what make Ronnie and Nixon Cali homeys?
I always think of Clinton as a beat up El Camino with astroturf in the bed.
