EUROPEAN SEX SURVEY - Teens from Germany, Iceland Ditch Virginity Early
DER SPIEGEL ^ | December 14, 2006 | dgs/ap

German kids like their sex. A survey of European teen sex habits has found that only pubescents from Iceland are quicker to jump in the sack. But when it comes to safety, the Dutch are tops.

The casual observer in Germany might be forgiven for thinking the Germans are oversexed. Pornographic cinemas and blush-inducing sex shops are a familiar part of the urban landscape, while exposed breasts are a common sight on advertising billboards and magazine covers.

With all that stimulating material around, it's not surprising that young Germans apparently have sex on the brain. A newly-released World Health Organization (WHO) report on sexual habits among teenagers in 26 European countries reveals that German teens are quick off the mark when it comes to losing their cherry; the average age at which Germans -- both boys and girls -- first have sex is 16.2.

I first had sex at 16 with a 17 year old girl in the class ahead of me. Yeah, I thought I was pretty cool at the time, little did I know how foolish I was being back then.

"Encouraging teens to make a public spectacle of their virginity by signing a abstinence pledge is a "sick perversion". It invites strangers into what should be a very personal, very private, part of anyones life."

OK so these teens can choose to have an abortion and thats ok. They can choose to participate in orgies and thats ok. They can choose to do just about anything and thats their "choice". But by golly if they choose to publically state their opposition to promiscuity then they are sick and perverted. WOW

"It's very perverted behavior to announce the status of their sexuality in public."

But they can announce they are gay and its ok? Your intolerance is frightening.

"You Americans should be careful because your own birth rate is also in decline since many years."

If it weren't for illegal Mexican immigrants the US birth rate would be about the same as European countries. At least our immigrants are Christian instead of Muslim.

"The parents, however, had given their consent by signing a form that included the following statement provided by the school district: "I understand answering questions may make my child feel uncomfortable. If this occurs, then ... the research study coordinator, will assist us in locating a therapist for further psychological help if necessary."

lol... They should send all their children to therapy for the rest of their lives in order to bankrupt the research study and the school district. If the therapist isn't charging enough demand they go to a better one, one that costs more. :o)

Odd that much of the world rejects our model (at least on [paper) of a limited government and seeks to implement an all powerful government model of redistribution and controls.

I don't buy your rejection premise. Democracy is more than just an economic system. That said, it is not a coincidence that we have been able to create the world's largest and most vibrant economy. Even the Communist Chinese see some benefit to limiting government's involvement in their economic system.

Unfortunately, we are adopting some measures that portend greater government controls and redistribution of wealth.

""Promiscuity is not a positive thing.

I never said that. But the issue is something to be shared inside the family and not in the public.""""

No sex is not a private matter anymore. POP culture insists on sexualizing childern with clothes, toys, advertizing etc.(I saw FAO Schwartz's Barbie doll this morning on T.V. with garter belt and fishnet stockings and push up bra for 7-8 year old's)

After my friend's Daughter(age 13) as part of a science project at a public school was paired off with a boy and given several condoms to fill with water till they broke to determine the best brand. I decided all these sexually liberated types were closet pedophiles who got their jollies projecting their sexual hang ups on to children for their own titillation.

With children and teenagers you have to draw lines and boundaries as well as boundaries for the adults

I agree with you. The reason Americans and Europeans are so different, you should recall, is because you sent your Puritans over HERE a few hundred years ago. :)

Yep that's right. Even if having sex feels good, certainly its not worth it after the fact.

Especially if you have to worry about STDs.

I wonder how many million Americans have STDs at the moment?

You sound more like a liberal to me.

That response was uncalled for. If this is how you respond to someone asking for an open discussion on an issue I think most of us would appreciate it that you did not participate. Your hostility is neither required nor desired.

"OK so these teens can choose to have an abortion and thats ok. They can choose to participate in orgies and thats ok. They can choose to do just about anything and thats their "choice""

I didn't say any of that was ok. I am against all of the above, unconditionally, but it is the business of the teen and their parents, no one else. Except for abortion, which should be illegal for everyone, just as murder is.

"But by golly if they choose to publically state their opposition to promiscuity then they are sick and perverted. WOW"

Thats not what I said. They can state their opposition to promiscuity all they want. Thats not perverted.

Announcing the status of their own sexuality is what is perverted. Did you know that sexual predators absolutely salivate over personal details like the status of there victims sexuality? They especially like virgins. For a teen to announce their virginity in public is like shouting to predators "pick me, pick me!"

It's disgusting.

"But they can announce they are gay and its ok? Your intolerance is frightening."

I think homosexuals are perverted and wish they would keep their sexuality to themselves as well. Announcing it is not only perverted, but provocative as well.

You made a lot of assumptions about me. All turned out to be wrong, which leads me to make a single obvious assumption about you. I suspect even you can guess what it is.

"The notion that teenage sex is a "family" matter is ludicrous too. Teenagers do not tell their parents about sex. Quick, go quiz a teenager about masturbation. 100% of teenagers practice that particular "art", and 95% will deny it."

I'm curious what time and place you grew up in.. I don't think I or any of my friends would have lied about masturbation if asked. My parents weren't very curious about my sex life, as long as I was safe, but if they had been curious I think I would have told them whatever they wanted to know. I'd imagine how secretive a kid is depends on how they believe their parents would react to whatever 'dire' news they might have about their sexuality.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Californians and northeast yankee's just don't move to Europe where they have all the sexual freedom, socialized medicine, and other crap Americans don't want.

I wish some people around here in the northeast would move to Europe. But don't paint us all with such a broad brush. I've known and/or spoken with people in other parts of the country who insist they're conservative over and over again, but their actions don't match their talk. Around here, people insist they're liberal, and their actions don't match their talk. It's all talk.

Not odd. We don't even follow our model. How can we expect others to follow a model that even we have rejected in favor of socialism?

LATIN America is reproducing. European America is dying out along with the rest of the white race everywhere in the world.

That is a confusing comment. I think that you think that the term Latin American refers to a race, when it doesn't. There are black Latin Americans and there are white Latin Americans (and even Latin American communities of Japanese and Chinese descent).
