Members of the ecoterrorism gang that torched buildings on Vail Mountain in 1998 will be sentenced in April, a federal judge ordered today.
At a hearing in U.S. District Court in Eugene, Ore., two key members of the gang formally pleaded guilty to federal arson charges, although they already had admitted their role in the multimillion-dollar fires.
They destroyed several mountaintop structures including the popular Two Elk Lodge, a restaurant that has been rebuilt.
During the 10-minute hearing, Chelsea Gerlach and Stanislas Meyerhoff, both 29, acknowledged their guilt when asked by Judge Ann Aiken.
Gerlach responded "yes," and Meyerhoff said, "Yes, I do."
Under plea deals, the former Oregon high-school sweethearts turned radical environmentalists -- she used the codename Country Girl and he was Country Boy -- agreed to have the Colorado charges consolidated with other charges pending against them and 11 other gang members.
The other charges stemmed from ecoterrorism strikes against government buildings, automobile dealerships, electricity lines and similar targets in the Northwest between 1996 and 2001.
Gerlach and Meyerhoff pleaded guilty in July to participating in the Northwest ecoterrorism attacks.
They were arrested in December 2005 in a nationwide sweep of ecoterrorism suspects.
In a related hearing, the judge scheduled Meyerhoff's sentencing for April 10 and Gerlach's for April 18.
Others in the gang who have pleaded guilty also will be sentenced in late April.
"She has been involved in many different aspects of the environmental movement, such as interning with the Oregon Natural Resources Council, canvassing for the Sierra Club, and leading the Environmental Resource Center at Evergreen State College."
Man, this really speaks volumes about her intelligence, and about the organizations she supports!!!!
Her support website asks we send books -- I think I'll send "The Sacred Hunt," I have several copies of it.
Seriously Yank, let's send her some literature, and pictures too.
Probably a solar-powered courtroom.

Dr. Jerry Vlasak, a medical doctor who is spokesman for the North American Animal Liberation Press Office, similarly said that law enforcement "is rounding up well-known environmentalists who likely had nothing to do with these offenses and charging them."
1998??? Somebody needs to tell these guys to work through lunch or something..
Man, he's purty, and will be really popular among the general prison population.
His "environmental" ethics are "fixin to go through a real reality check."
Dr. Jerry Vlasak is a physician with an odd interpretation of the Hippocratic Oaths dictum that doctors should do no harm. As a representative of the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), Vlasak told the Animal Rights 2003 convention that he would endorse the murder of physicians whose research work requires the use of lab rats and other animals.
I dont think youd have to kill -- assassinate -- too many vivisectors, Vlasak said, before you would see a marked decrease in the amount of vivisection going on. And I think for 5 lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million non-human lives. When one woman in the audience disagreed, saying that Vlasaks approach was no different from that of abortion-clinic bombers, Vlasak was undeterred. Absolutely, he countered. I think they had a great strategy going.
PCRM has denied that Vlasak was speaking on its behalf, but the events program described him as Jerry Vlasak, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Vlasak has also written for PCRMs member magazine, and was called a PCRM spokesperson in a February 2002 PCRM press release. In an odd bit of historical revisionism, PCRM has since scrubbed his name (and the entire paragraph including his quote) from its websites archive of that press release.
Vlasak and his wife, the former child actress Pamelyn Ferdin, are both directors of a militant direct action Los Angeles group called the Animal Defense League (ADL-LA). Ferdin herself is the president of SHAC USA, a violent animal rights group described by the United States Department of Justice as a domestic terror threat. And Vlasak has stumped publicly for SHAC, appearing at rallies and protests in support of the groups no compromise plan to rid the world of animal laboratories.
Vlasak has personally been arrested several times for animal-rights-related activity, and urges others to get arrested. His most recent brush with the law came in 2005, as he and nine other crew members of the radical Sea Shepherd Conservation Society were taken into custody for attempting to interfere with the Canadian seal hunt. Vlasak sits on Sea Shepherds board, and is the groups legal Treasurer.
Dang, I can't believe Miss "earth justice" sunshine has all that ink on her back.
Doesn't she know that ink is environmentally toxic, and the trees they cut down to print ink is "environmentally unsound?"
Why are they referred to as "eco-terrorists"? If these people set a fire on top of a mountain, possibly touching off a huge forest fire, aren't they really "anti-eco-terrorists"? Just a thought.
Pamelyn Ferdin now...
Send them to Florence, Colorado

Jerry Vlasak was defending his 2003 statement (made as a PCRM spokesperson) that political assassination "could be used quite effectively from a pragmatic standpoint ... for 5 lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million non-human lives."
Great Britain has banned Vlasak and his wife (former child actress Pamelyn Ferdin) because of this and other threats.
