Mary Cheney's Pregnancy Affects Us All
Townhall ^ | December 7, 2006 | Janice Shaw Crouse PhD, Concerned Women for America

Mary Cheney’s pregnancy poses problems not just for her child, but also for all Americans. Her action repudiates traditional values and sets an appalling example for young people at a time when father absence is the most pressing social problem facing the nation. With 37 percent of American children born to fatherless families, Mary Cheney is contributing to a trend that is detrimental to all Americans who will live with the ramifications of millions of children whose anger and frustration at not knowing their father will be felt in the public schools and communities of our nation.

Mary Cheney is among that burgeoning group of adult women over age 20 that are driving the trend of women who don’t want a man in the picture, but want to have a baby. These older women are pushing out-of-wedlock birth statistics higher and higher. At a time when teen births and teen abortions are declining dramatically, older women are having more un-wed births and more abortions, including repeat abortions (indicating that they are using abortion as birth control).

Well-educated, professional Mary Cheney is flying in the face of the accumulated wisdom of the top experts who agree that the very best family structure for a child’s well-being is a married mom and dad family. Her child will have all the material advantages it will need, but it will still encounter the emotional devastation common to children without fathers.

One Georgia high school principal reported, “We have too many young men and women from single-mother families that don’t have the role models at home to teach them how to deal with adversity and handle responsibility. They’ve seen their mom work 60 hours a week just to put food on the table; they end up fending for themselves.”

When fatherless children get to be teens, the girls tend to start looking for love in all the wrong places and the boys tend to find as their role model the bad-boy celebrities of MTV, NFL and NBA.

As they grow older, fatherless children tend to have trouble dealing with male authority figures. Too often children in single-mother households end up angry at their absent fathers and resentful of the mother who has had to be a father figure, too. Typically, the boys who have a love-hate relationship with their mother end up hating all women. Numerous of them look for vulnerable women where they can act out their anger and be in control.

Mary Cheney’s action sets an example that is detrimental for mothers with less financial resources who will start down an irrevocable path into poverty that tends to be generational –– children in households without a father tend to themselves have unwed births later in life. Experts from both the left and the right cite a disastrous litany of negative outcomes that are predictable when a child grows up in a fatherless family. Such children tend to get involved in drugs, alcohol abuse, and delinquency; they tend to drop out of school and have teen pregnancies. An assistant principal in a Junior High School said that many of the behavioral problems that teachers face in the classroom stem from households without a father’s influence.

Mary’s pregnancy is an “in-your-face” action countering the Bush Administration’s pro-family, pro-marriage and pro-life policies. She continues to repudiate the work to which her father has devoted his life. Mary has repeatedly said that “studies” show that children only need a loving home. Her statement is incomplete because the experts agree that for the well-being of children, they desperately need a married father and a mother.

All those people who talk about doing what is best “for our children” need to get back to the basics: children need a married mom and dad. Children can do without a lot of the trimmings of childhood, but nothing can replace a home where the mother and dad love each other enough to commit for a lifetime and are absolutely crazy about their kids –– enough to be willing to sacrifice their own needs to see that their children get the very best.

I suggest that Mary Cheney should renounce lesbianism, and take up with Liza Minellis ex husband. He is straight and available. Then they can produce a love child in a marriage that will be stable and solid for all the child's formative years. This 15 year relationship Mary Cheney has now is a passing fad. She really wants a man.

One can be against the gay agenda, and against gay marriage, yet not feel angry at Mary Cheney. There are a lot of gays and lesbians that are right leaning that I like.

Even Senator Rick Santorum's main person is gay. I understand he's scheduled to be in charge of the Log Cabin Club.

I think I'm on the fence about this. I don't hate Mary Cheney, I think she was raised in a good home. We don't know why she is gay (sexual abuse by a relative is always a good possibility), and always, always, it's best to have a mom and dad.

What I don't see is Mary Cheney out there for the gayleft agenda. Mary minds her own business, gives money to Republicans, and is a Republican from what I understand.

I think, while I am against the gay agenda, I can still wish Miss Cheney and her partner the best. So, I guess on this one, today, I am a fence sitter.

I've only read through the first 50 replies...

May God have mercy on us if this is the prevailing attitude.

Two gay women producing a child-- and it gets kudos, or excuses from the majority in the 50 replies.

Our country is in more trouble than I thought!

I'm not sure I have the stomach to read the next 400 plus replies.....

Dear mercy, I don't care if it is the Vice President's daughter, it's still not right!

Our country is in more trouble than I thought!

I could not agree more!!! With so many so-called conservatives posting opinions as they have here, and seeing how many people voted the way they did for the reasons they did this past election, the whole country truly is going insane.

Hang in there. We are just frustrated that to the-called Religious Right think they are the purest of all Conservatives, often run when the rubber hits the road, and demand the full agreement with ALL their beliefs (such beliefs often mocked by their "leaders")

Televangelism is the greatest scam field of our day. Reminds me of Jessie Jackson taking his pregnant girlfriend with him to the White House to counsel Clinton on Monica and marital infidelity!

It's become quite the rage to adopt from overseas. How about jumping in and giving kids from our own nation a happy home.

I agree. My brother adopted 3 special needs children. Children who don't need extra care can be very expensive to adopt. It seems that finding homes for the kids is secondary to making piles of money for most adoption agencies.

Thank-you for saying this...

World Magazine..has a lead story this week on how angry children become when they realize their mom's chose to 'have' them without knowing the father.

These children wander through life trying to assimilate and find their place & position in 'a family'...

We've had enough years of this claptrap ...so now we have the empirical evidence.

It's a purely selfish choice!!

No one....no one! cares about the children.....

It's all about ME ME ME!

I wonder, if we had a VP by the name of Robert Schwartz, would we still be reading about a lesbian female named Mary Cheney?

Butt out, its not your business.

Sorry pal, but people are going to discuss this whether or not a biddie like "Central Scrutiniser" (LOL) likes it or not. Not sure where you got the idea people are inclined take orders from you. Take your own advice and mind your own business.

Well, of course its all God's fault, he created and allows gays to live.

Yes and coincidentally gay men were much more likely to have been molested as a child and to engage in pedophilia as adults.

Good song.
Actually written by Steve "City of New Orleans" Goodman.

That would have been quite the trick for even someone of Goodman's amazing talent, as Goodman was born in 1948, and Hank Williams Sr. released "Mind Your Own Business" in 1949 when Goodman was only a year old.

And don't misunderstand - this is not at all a slam on Goodman (who is one of my favorite artists too), who died way before his time.

I worked for a gay, white male couple who adopted an African-American baby girl.

They have been the most wonderful parents I have seen.

Again, the ideal situation is a man and a woman, but that does not take away from these great parents.

Do these great parents model their sexual roles so that the boys will know how to be men and the girls how to be women?

Back up the bus . . . having children is not a "God given right" . . . women are just the ones equipped. Actually, following God's law would rule out lots of folks from having children . . . this usually for the benefit of the child.

Sure, we could mind our own business if things like this were not thrown in our face constantly . . . and imho, for the reason of setting an agenda, or forwarding a cause.

Yes, I agree with the article. I am changing my mind about one thing... Maybe.. we "redstaters" are as stupid as they think we are. There is not doubt in my mind that Mary Chaney has been tapped on the shoulder by the HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA people. Not dumb, they realize how valuable she is to "adavance/sell" their ideology given her position as the ADVISE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. daughter!!!.. and she, no doubt will use her child, to advance the homosexual agenda as well. It's really a simple tactic.. Children, shamelessly will be used to advance their ideology... and "good quality children" (like one of this freak), will be a valuable tool in future fights.

I am sorry for her parents.

Norge, you make me want to weep.....from sadness and frustration.

You sound like you have a lovely, accountable family...

...but I truly wonder what your Bible Study Fellowship daughter would respond if she read your post and others represented here.....the posts that approve of or condone or make excuses or generally look the other way ....or give some pat answer that this baby will do just fine.

No one is against this baby.....every Christian heart should pray this baby will know the Lord.

Every caring person should hope this child can overcome this situational ethics home where a father was deemed unnecessary...except for the use of some nameless man's sperm.

... and two women engaged in acts the Bible still calls wrong.

Absolutely God can save this child.

But God also addresses the position these two selfish women have put this child in.

This is not the child's fault..

..but even with a Vice President for a grandfather, this child will have to deal with the moral mess the mother has put him/her in.

Or maybe our country has fallen so far....this will become the norm.

In that case, I really am an alien here.

You are posting on a site where we all get to give an opinion. You can for intstance say that it is no concern to you that a baby grow up in a totally abnormal way; and I would disagree with you that I believe it is a concern because it will have an impact on our culture (and my children's) so . . .

These things come our way in the form of curriclum at our schools, television programming, etc. all "normalizing" things a good percentage of Americans view as . . . not quite right!!
