Top Democrats in Congress left a White House meeting with President Bush on Friday frustrated over what they perceived as his reluctance to embrace major recommendations from the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.
"I just didn't feel there today, the president in his words or his demeanor, that he is going to do anything right away to change things drastically," Senate Majority Leader-elect Harry Reid, D-Nev., said following the Oval Office meeting. "He is tepid in what he talks about doing. Someone has to get the message to this man that there have to be significant changes."
Bush has been cool to some of the report's main recommendations. He's said he won't deal with Iran until it verifiably suspends its nuclear enrichment program and won't sit down with Syria until it stays out of Lebanon's political affairs and prevents the flow of weapons and cash to insurgents in Iraq.
And Bush has stressed many times that U.S. troops will stay in Iraq until they successfully complete their mission.

You are so correct about our heroic Commander-in-Chief's not budging in time of war with our own Freedom now directly at stake here at home.
Standby for a Democrat IMPEACHMENT of same Commander-in-Chief in time of....
.
Makes me happy knowing Dingy Harry is flustered.
The Dims will cut funding only if they can pin it on Bush for any failure in Iraq. BTW I continue to hear stories from returning soldiers that the higher-ups in this war won't let our finest do what they are trained to do; kill the bad guys.
*snort* And they thought they were going to try to intimidate the President into doing what THEY wanted? Sheer arrogance.
Heh, don't hold your breath, Hon!
This bunch of democrats believe the Executive Branch (POTUS) is chartered only to do what Congress desires, that is Execute the Will of the People.
This bunch feel they represent the Will of the People because they were elected. However, when this bunch were in the minority, they did everything they could to thwart the Will of the People.
Hypocrites, one and all! Doesn't stop them, though.
The only thing congress can do is cut off funding and even with support for the battle low if the Rats did that it will be a short 2 years.
wish the 100 or so freepers would read this.So many piss and moan about Dubya's backward direction and there NEVER HAS BEEN A DUBYA BACKWARD DIRECTION. NOT ONCE when it comes to fighting those who would rape and behead your grandmother in her own bed.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
So the Dems won't dare to do that.
But on what grounds do you assert that Bush isn't involved in appointing the people to this study group. Like he didn't appointed people to the 9/11 commission or the Social Security Commission? Clinton never allowed anyone to be appointed to anything during his tenure who wasn't vetted or a proxy for him. Is Bush naive or simply too above it all to allow his Presidency to be decided by randomly selected political stooges?
I can't make a rational argument for what he is doing. If you can, I'd like to hear it. But please be serious. I'll look forward to your thoughts.
But lets say you are the President of the United States. The Leader of the Free World. Head of the Grand Old Party.
Give me a plausible explanation as to why you would just stand by and do nothing while defeatists in your own party picked out members of an advisory group to undermine your efforts to win in Iraq?
If Bush is so politically weak or just deaf that he can't see that he is giving away his ability to gain support for any policy which might win in Iraq, how screwed are we? How long will it be before he is holding press conferences like Clinton did in 1995 trying to convince the press corp that he is still relevant?
To give this a little context, lets go back to the last commission. The 9/11 commission. Clinton put one of his own attorneys on there along with his political appointee from the DOJ to ensure that his name didn't get muddied. He had Sandy Burglar stealing documents to cover his tracks. And in contrast, who on the GOP side can you really claim that Bush had in there as a political infighter for him? The GOP side was filled with people neither you or I could either remember or wouldn't appoint to a Christmas decorating committee. Where was the political calculations in this and aren't we still getting beat up by these jello sherriffs today because we didn't do it right the first time?
Maybe I'm just not above engaging in politics to achieve our goals. And maybe I'm alone in that cuz it doesn't appear outwardly that Bush is willing to engage in politics and he (and us) continually suffer for it.
>>Do we need another 9-11 to remember who the real enemy is?<<
I think you know the answer to that question. People in this country have already forgotten 9-11, and have more important things to do than worry about mere terrorist attacks. Now, go on and let folks get back to their Playstations, Oprah, Maury, Judge Joe, and Dr. Phil.
Amen.
I'd love to see that happen. Lieberman already came out and slammed the Iraq Surrender Group report.
Since our schools don't teach much history, this way the children can learn about history by seeing it repeat itself on TV news.
"Do we need another 9-11 to remember who the real enemy
is?"
No, we need an invasion of the US by the real enemy. That seems, to me, to be the only thing that'll wake people up to reality and also show them who the real Americans are.
