Correct. However very few Christians who support Aoun participated in Hizballah demonstrations. Christians cannot possibly live with Hizballah terrorists no matter what. Aoun was the biggest loser in the last demonstrations because his supporters did not heed his call to participate. The demonstration over all failed and that is why Hizballah terror group now is using the tactics that the terrorists understand most "Violence". They want to topple the government using violence.

Lebanon is now the third front of the war on terror.

Iran must be broken, we have no other choice.

I am hearing reports from some people in Lebanon that the Lebanese government may ask the new UN "beefed up" forces in Lebanon to interfere to protect the government from Hizballah coup d'etat.

I think it will be a great idea and a great solution for many of the Middle East problems.

UNIFIL doesn't figure in it. They've probably left by now. One shot fired and they're gone.

Oh dear!

Loads of nappies needed for the Foreign Offices in UNIFIL countries. And the EUwho wanted to have a say in the Middle East - but "a say" is not "militaristic adventures".

Oh, oh, oh.

Unless of course if Hizballah terrorists succeed in toppling the government and give the terrorist regimes in Syria and Iran control of Lebanon. In this case, it will be a disaster.

President Bush should be on the top of this, I am sure he is. We cannot afford to lose Lebanon to terrorism and the control of Hizballah, Syria, and Iran.

John Murtha should be forced to read - aloud, on the floor of Congess - every word of every link on your FReep page....if he tires, Speaker Pelosi can pick up with it.

They won't have to make a deal with Israel. This will spill over into another war with Israel because the hezzies will make sure of it. The world has let them and other bloodthirsty Shia groups grow strong.

I think the Axis powers (Syria, Iran, et al) have been emboldened by the electoral success of the American left. They smell weakness, appeasement, and lack of resolve, but they will be in for a rude awakening if they chose a frontal assault against America while W is Commander-in-Chief.

Man killed in Beirut clashes

Demonstrators include supporters of both Christian and Muslim parties

A man has been killed in clashes between rival groups in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, as supporters of the Hezbollah-led opposition alliance continue to protest against the Lebanese government.

The man, a Shia Muslim, died after being shot in the Tarik Jdideh area of west Beirut. It was not clear where the gunfire came from, witnesses said.

The clash is understood to have occurred as some Hezbollah supporters passed through the Sunni district on their way home from the sit-in protests.

Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra reported that the several other skirmishes between rival protesters were quickly put down by security forces.

Agree 100%. They still do not understand that we have only one CIC in this country and that is the President.

Frankly, and with no satisfaction, I've expected this for a long time. I expected it shortly after the IDF invasion. I was wrong then. I thought the rest of Lebanon would fall on the instigators of that war, which was obviously Hizbollah. Now we see it's not going to be a revenge by the rest of the nation as much as it's going to be a coup by the pro-Iran/pro-Syria proxies, Hizbollah. Good thing the UN is there, eh? Sad, but this may lead to a first victory over Hizbollah if the US and the Israelis stand by Democracy in Lebanon. Bring the hammer down on Damascus and make Assad pay for the evil he's inflicted in Iraq, Lebanon, and Israel. This dirty-necked dictator has aided those who kill Americans in Iraq. Wake up, America! Do not let the future belong to Fredo Assad.

General Aoun a person obsessed with becoming President is allying himself with Syria, Iran, and Hizballah hoping that they will make him President if they succeed in controlling the country.

"I for one welcome our new Syrian overlords. I'd like to remind them that I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves."

Alliances and rivalries in the ME are so complicated, it's hard to follow them without a scorecard (and even with one). It's not always a simple matter of one religious group against another. For example, the Muslims in Syria are mostly Sunni, led by an ostensibly secular government and a ruling family that is of a different Muslim sect altogether, and they have thrown their lot in with the Iranian and Lebanese Shiites for political purposes. I don't think I'll ever figure it all out.
