Navy rejects San Francisco for warship commissioning ceremony -

Saturday, December 2, 2006 (12-02) 12:37 PST San Francisco (AP) --

The U.S. Navy has rejected plans to commission its newest and most powerful warship in San Francisco because of concerns that the city doesn't support the military. Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter vetoed plans this week for a commissioning ceremony for the Makin Island in San Francisco, said retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. J. Michael Myatt, chairman of the citizens' commissioning committee. Instead, San Diego will host the ceremony in which the crew formally takes charge of the ship, Myatt said. Navy leaders were concerned about San Francisco's refusal to offer a homeport for the retired battleship Iowa, which would be turned into a museum, as well as the school board's decision to abolish junior ROTC training in city high schools, Myatt said. Some city politicians also have publicly criticized the Pentagon. In one instance, Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval said national defense should be left to "the cops and the Coast Guard." Myatt said the Navy had mistaken the views of some political leaders for the views of the majority of Bay Area citizens.

The city council and county commissars along with SanFran Nan needs to call up the city militant homosexuals SS corp to defend SF.

I just got a chuckle trying to envision such a group settling on a uniform...

The Navy should not only commission ships in SF, but also test their weaponry before leaving port. Gotta make certain those guns and rockets work properly.

Bay area citizens are the ones responsible for putting this Gerardo Sandoval in office.

Did anyone check his green card???

I hope not only the Navy but all the Services wage siege on SF for any Air-Shows, Association Conventions, Defense Contractor Exhibits, Awarding of Government Defense Contracts, etc., until until SF pulls it's "collective" head out its "collective" BUM.

(Use of the term "collective" was intentional and meant to be accusatory of SF's political bent. {bent< / sarc>})

San Franciscans elect leaders who officially condemn the U.S. and the U.S. military. That must be the majority opinion otherwise such people would not get elected. There are decent people in San Francisco but most are anarchists or communists of one sort or another. They are spoiled brats who don't know what it takes to run a country or even to run a city. The military will protect San Francisco like any other city. Why should the military spend money there when there are friendlier cities they could use?

They should commission the ship 10 miles off shore and then begin "combat exercises" over the city....

The majority is not everybody, and if you read the comments to which the posted were responses you will see that they were suggesting that the military not protect San Francisco (and by extension, the Bay Area). It is the military's prerogative where to settle, and a friendly city makes sense.

If you use Internet Explorer or Opera, http://www.freerepublic.com/~jedimasterpikachu/ is very unorganized. If you know how to fix it, could you freepmail?

The Hedonists of SF don't realise that if the enemy were ever to take over san francisco, the Hedonists would be the first ones purged and shot against the walls.

"SF can kiss my blue and gold A$$!"

Be careful.... In SF you'll get a lot of takers on that offer - and possibly a nasty or fatal STD.

Based on their ideology, the Nazi uniform would be the prefect fit

Do you use Firefox? On Internet Explorer it looked rather bad, and others have reported that on Opera it is ugly, too.

The best thing about Fleet Week is for one whole week the Blue Angels fly around the whole city driving the commies crazy. It's soooo fun to listen to them cry about the engine noise.
