Associates say 'joke' fallout stunned him
-- Senator John F. Kerry's election-eve "botched joke" about the war in Iraq -- and the fierce denunciations his comments drew from fellow Democrats -- has led him to reevaluate whether to mount a run for the presidency in 2008 and has led him to delay an announcement about his decision, according to Kerry associates.
The Massachusetts Democrat is now leaning toward waiting until late spring before declaring his intentions, even as other candidates jump into the race and begin building organizing and fund-raising teams in early-primary states. Before the joke derailed his comeback, Kerry had signaled that he would decide whether to run by the end of January.

Philip W. Johnston, chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, called it "disgraceful" that Kerry's own party quickly rebuked him. But he added that the incident showed that many Democrats are still angry about Kerry's defeat in 2004.
"People did not trash him after the election two years ago, and it's almost like all of the pent-up frustration came after the joke," Johnston said.
"We won the '06 election," Johnston said. "I think it's pretty much over [for Kerry]. Now we can move on."

If only he would have actually gotten an education instead of just putting his time in at college. As it is, he's stuck in his Iraq Moment.
Too bad. I hope American children learn from this.
Study hard, or end up like Jon Carry.
If we could only get both losers to run... Kerry, Gore.
That would be a Rovian dream come true.
What a dumb-cluck. And to think this was the best presidential candidate the Democrats could come up with for 2004...and Al Gore, before that. Frightening.
Actually he is probably needing time to persuade seriously addled TerAYZA HEINZ (and her children) to squander even more of the Heinz family fortune by funding yet another fool's adventure by her blundering pompous narcissistic husband.
He's waiting to see if Castro will die and open up an opportunity.
That is the CHAIRMAN of the Democrat party from Kerry's home state?
LOL! Sounds like Kerry does not even have his home base sewn up.
John Kerry is Done!
Kerry did succeed though, he sufficiently numbed the public to these kind of remarks, thus blazing a trail for charlie rangel to say virtually the same thing without feeling the need to hide it in a "botched Joke".
Sounds like!
Yeah, you saw the uproar in the MSM about Rangel's remarks, didn't you ? You didn't ?
Good call. Kerry running, with Gore as his running mate for VP. It would be one of the easiest Republican victories in the history of American presidential elections.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Democratic Sen. John Kerry, considering a second bid for the U.S. presidency, finished dead last in a poll on the likability of 20 top American political figures.

You are the joke.
He undoubtedly isn't getting many pledges of contribution from previous backers because he's damaged goods and the smart money isn't going to go to him......and he knows this, also.
Without the dough now, there's no croissants for him take out of the oven later.
His posturing by announcing a "postponement" is just a ruse to keep his name in the news till spring and to get enough far-flung speaking engagements to keep him out from under Teresa's watchful eye for a little time longer.
