For all of the dire warnings and pre-election commotion about the impact of a Democratic majority in Congress, the fact is that now that it is upon us it can do little or nothing but harass the administration.
There is no real danger of any legislative action emerging from this Congress. Yes, the president has a veto the Democrats cannot override, but nothing will ever make it as far as the desk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., are just spinning their wheels.
In the Senate, there is no such thing as a majority. Ever since the elder Bush's administration, the filibuster has become routine. No longer reserved for civil-rights issues or for egregious legislation, it now is used to counter even motions for recess and adjournment. Members of the Senate are no longer subjected to the indignity of standing on their feet and reading a telephone book. Rather, the gentlemen's filibuster applies.....

The great toe sucker, has feet and inches mixed up...
I thought he was The Toe-ster?
Yes. leave it to the Toe-Sucker to blame a Bush and not the Democrats who bucked 200 years of protocol/tradition.
government gridlock is a good thing.
Rush says that about once a week. I agree.
The Democrats will get most of what they want because Republicans don't fight back. And 51 Democrats in the Senate can always count on RINOs like Specter, Graham, McCain, Hagel, Snowe, Collins, and Warner to side with them on important issues like judges, Patriot Act, military prisons, taxes.
And all the bad things that happen, through the willing help of the MSM, will be blamed on the Republicans.

Except that it's not really gridlock. Inflating the currency marches on regardless of who is in power. Along with pay increases indexed for inflation and the ever increasing taxes to boot. The game really is rigged. By the time you collect social security you may be able to buy a new set of shoes for your horse, once every other year.
Plus Trent Lott is back, mad as hell, and ready to throw a monkey wrench into the works.

I doubt that it will even get to be as bad as you predict, and remember that McCain and Hagel are still running for the '08 GOP Presidency and want the majority of conservative votes. Also, Warner's Senate seat is up in '08, and if he decides to run again, then he will be wanting the majority of the Virginia conservative votes in both the Republican Primary and during the general election.
I will make a cyber bet right now.------- The next pay raise for Congress that comes up will get bi-partisan support.
Mega Dittos. As long as they aren't passing laws we will be ok, until the tax cuts start expiring.

Having some experience with the N.Y.State government,I have always felt that Congress should be given a year off without pay on a regular basis. They would pass a 2 year budget. They would have to get a real job.We would all be surprised how well we would do without any new laws.
Democrats already have this all planned out. Hold the line on their ambitions for 2 years, capture WH, and then watch out. Pent up democrat demand will blitzkreig the country faster than the Wehrmacht took France.
