Media Says Withdrawing Troops Would Be a Disaster, Belatedly Endorses Bush -

NEW YORK — The news media has changed its tune since the election and now agrees that withdrawing U.S. troops before the Iraq is stabilized would be a disaster. As a result, the media has belatedly endorsed George Bush and called for a new vote for the House and Congress.

“How can you run an effective strategy for the war with a divided government?” asked Seymour Hersh, a previous critic of the Bush Administration and the Iraq war in a series of articles published in the New Yorker. “What we need now is unity. And withdrawing troops would be a disaster. The Democrats were flat out wrong.”

Before the election, Congressman John Murtha was lionized by the media as a decorated Marine Corps veteran who transformed the political debate over Iraq when he called for a speedy withdrawal of U.S. troops. Now the media sees him as an old fogey whom they have discovered was questioned during the Abcsam corruption investigation 25 years ago.

“We missed that,” said Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr. of The New York Times. “Our fact checking has been computerized, and the records don’t go back 25 years. We’re investigating that, and we will announce a new policy on fact checking soon.”

When asked by a reporter what kind of stability she saw in Iraq if the U.S. does withdraw its troops, soon-to-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi replied:

”I’m not here to talk about any one proposal because every one of the proposals from right to left in our caucus was about a … formula for bringing the troops home. So, we’re just taking about timing, the fact is that bringing the troops is what is going to happen.”

So what happens in Iraq when the troops are withdrawn?

”I’m not here to talk about what the press recorded [about Hoyer’s statement that withdrawal would lead to a civil war]. What I’m here to say is what Mr. Murtha’s resolution does, and that resolution is to say that strategic redeployment in the region over the horizon with a force to go in as necessary to protect us, us the American people in case of acts of terrorism that could be a threat to our neighbors in the region is a better way, is a better way to proceed. Yes, there were other proposals that had a similar approach but a longer timetable on it and again, again this is not about politics, it’s about the unity in our party… This has a direct impact on the strength of our military to protect us wherever a threat to our security may be in the world. It has a direct impact on the safety of American people and yes, it has an impact on the stability in the region.”

They know they are wrong. They just came up with all that to win some seats. Nothing is going to change. They are part of the problem, not the solution. We should have told men, women and children to get out and flattened Fallujah. That is how you win a war. War is nasty business and not for a bunch of "let's play war by some stupid self-imposed rules." No, I have no taste for it, but just like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it saves lives in the end.

Why is it so few speak this truth?
Even here on FreeRepublic I see so many comments that effectively excuse Leftists/Dems simply as ignoramuses rather than the active proponents of destroying America that they are.

Here's the comment that blew my mind:

These jerks' idea of a fact is their stooopidity and bias.

why dont those same bobos go to the third world and promote progress and social order as we understand it? Educate them - but then again... Muslims can boast their successes and progress , after all, they control the third world.... and through their superiority want to take us there.

The media wants the prosperous us of a to GIVE the havenots? So everyone can be equally enlightened? Czar nicolas wealth went the same way...then everyone was equally broke. SCREW that - they can promote the others develop their economies, employ their resources and their people! The us of a had to figure it out... if the muslims are SOOOOO intellectual why can't they figure it??

so why cant the media to do something productive? if they thought this thing through - kill the goose that laid the golden egg and what do you have?

...the Dems know, indeed have known all along...

The liberal elite has always known that they can blame Bush/Repubs for getting the USA entrenched in Iraq/Afganistan.

The string-pullers/puppet-masters behind the scenes on the world stage have always known the geopolitical realities necessitating western military intervention in Asia (the Middle East).

The Democrat puppets will call it (continue to call it) Bush's War just to gain/hold a popular advantage amongst the media-blinded American Public.

The satire may become reality once the Demos realize that they have to assume responsibility for the outcome. I'd love to hear Bush say, "You want us out? No problem, pick a date and go on record having voted for it." If we had some of those wind generators on the Virginia border, the breeze from the back-peddling would light a small city.

“How can you run an effective strategy for the war with a divided government?” asked Seymour Hersh...this is obviously satire, but I did hear Robin Williams say in some interview yesterday, with a straight face, that a benefit of the recent elections was that there would now be cooperation between the President and the Democrats, which hadn't occurred before. Weird Robin forgot to mention that when there had been cooperation, as with Sen.Lieberman's support of the war, the 'rats tried to expell him from the political stage, and with Jane Harmon working well in the House Intelligence Committee, the 'rats accuse her of supporting Bush too much and deny her the chairmanship of the committee. For 'rats, a unified government means that everybody believes and does exactly and only as they do........

"Even here on FreeRepublic I see so many comments that effectively excuse Leftists/Dems simply as ignoramuses rather than the active proponents of destroying America that they are."

That is because many do not see the whole picture accurately from a long term view. When viewed one episode at a time the Dems look like ignoramuses.

When viewed with a long term historical perspective the left is down right diabolical. An evil moving at a snails pace is hardly noticed. Now much of it is accepted.

J,

I agree and disagree. Up until the Clintons ran rough shod over Washington and the country, I believe your assessment is correct.

Since the Clinton Administration I see the Leftists more emboldened all the time. In your face, smash-mouth politics coming from all Lefty fronts: politicians, pundits, media types, activitsts, bloggers and even widows (the "Jersey girls") and "grieving" parents (Cindy Sheehan)...

They are relentless and NEVER subtle.
