Senator Set To Attack On Iraq Data (Levin thinks he's gonna disprove Saddam-al Qaeda link)
The New York Sun ^ | November 24, 2006 | Eli Lake

WASHINGTON — The first shot in the coming subpoena wars between congressional Democrats and the Bush administration likely will be fired in January by Senator Levin, a Democrat of Michigan.

The Senate Armed Services Committee's Democratic staff, soon to be in the majority, is already preparing to ask the Pentagon for documents related to analysis in the lead-up to the Iraq war from the offices reporting to a former undersecretary of defense for policy, Douglas Feith.

President Bush should prepare an address to the nation and explain to the American people that he and the Pentagon refuse to provide any documents to the showboating 'RATs in the Senate due to their tendency to leak classified information to the enemy via their toadies in the liberal MSM. That would just about do it and Americans would understand.

Or just declassify the documents relevant to the topic that are no longer of operational necessity.

Let's see ALL of Zubaydah's testimony

all of Zubair's testimony

all of the testimony of those from the 98 case in which the Clinton Justice dept agreed that al Qaeda had agreed to cooperate with the gov't of Iraq on weapons programs

and fully declassify the testimony of all these Saddam associtates who have been caught working with/for al Qaeda post invasion,

ask them when and how the cooperation begain

The Watergate dictionary: oversight it means harass, harry, hound, badger, bait, annoy, bother, irk, plague, hector, nag, pester, keep after, torment, distress, browbeat, bully, heckle, needle, ride, tease, rib; also, to trouble persistently or incessantly; systematic persecution by besieging with repeated annoyances, threats, demands, or misfortunes; unrelenting pursuit to gain a desired end; to nag or tease persistently; to inflict a succession of petty annoyances; the infliction of tribulations, such as worry or vexation, likened to an epidemic disease; to torment by or as if by taunting, insulting, or ridiculing. (Thank you, American Heritage)

Was Nixon, et al. guiltless? No.

Did the MSM say one thing about LBJ bugging Goldwater? No.

Did LBJ try to cover up? Didn't have to! See immediately above.

Did the MSM ever criticize Democrat Dick Tuck's dirty tricks? No. (They loved them)

Oversight, it's what destroyed the last wartime administration. It's what Rats do.

RE: American Heritage

Obviously American Heritage did not define Watergate that way but they did supply the words I used.

As an added bonus...

"Should Mr. Levin decide to reopen his inquiry into pre-war intelligence, however, there is a risk that Democrats will be seen as backward-looking. In an interview earlier this month, the head of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, Al From, said he would caution his party against "relitigating 2003."

At least the few sane 'Rats aren't enthusiastic about Levin's inquiry.

Thank you for the ping!

1-28-03 State of the Union -- What President Bush really said in that speech
whitehouse.gov ^ | 1-2003

Posted on 03/20/2006 9:41:45 AM PST by doug from upland

HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT EXCERPTS FROM THE STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH ON 1-28-03. President Bush made a great case. Unfortunately, he backed down in the face of the screaming leftists. I heard Swimmer Ted Kennedy say that the President promised we would find nuclear weapons. The Swimmer got away with it. Bush should be holding fireside chats, not news conferences where the insane David Gregory and not so lovely Helen Thomas are in attendance, in which he continues to lay out the case. Our military deserves it. The info from General Sadr and the Saddam tapes may well eviscerate the Dems before the November elections. But he has to pull the trigger and do it.

Before September the 11th, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained. But chemical agents, lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained. Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans -- this time armed by Saddam Hussein. It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known. We will do everything in our power to make sure that that day never comes. (Applause.)

Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option. (Applause.)

The dictator who is assembling the world's most dangerous weapons has already used them on whole villages -- leaving thousands of his own citizens dead, blind, or disfigured. Iraqi refugees tell us how forced confessions are obtained -- by torturing children while their parents are made to watch. International human rights groups have catalogued other methods used in the torture chambers of Iraq: electric shock, burning with hot irons, dripping acid on the skin, mutilation with electric drills, cutting out tongues, and rape. If this is not evil, then evil has no meaning. (Applause.)

And tonight I have a message for the brave and oppressed people of Iraq: Your enemy is not surrounding your country -- your enemy is ruling your country. (Applause.) And the day he and his regime are removed from power will be the day of your liberation. (Applause.)

The world has waited 12 years for Iraq to disarm. America will not accept a serious and mounting threat to our country, and our friends and our allies. The United States will ask the U.N. Security Council to convene on February the 5th to consider the facts of Iraq's ongoing defiance of the world. Secretary of State Powell will present information and intelligence about Iraqi's legal -- Iraq's illegal weapons programs, its attempt to hide those weapons from inspectors, and its links to terrorist groups.

We will consult. But let there be no misunderstanding: If Saddam Hussein does not fully disarm, for the safety of our people and for the peace of the world, we will lead a coalition to disarm him. (Applause.)

Thanks...this is one of the subjects that just gets me going.

I am a Senate watcher..on C-span...and I have heard all of the lies that Levin and other dems have told...in order to make President Bush out as a liar....but, there is way too much evidence to the contrary.

And, with our country in the precarious position in the world right now...the last thing we need is the POTUS/CIC having to be under investigation for things that the dems have "made up".

Time to bring on Stephen Hayes of The Weekly Standard:

In the spring of 1998--well before the U.S. embassy bombings in East Africa--the Clinton administration indicted Osama bin Laden. The indictment, unsealed a few months later, prominently cited al Qaeda's agreement to collaborate with Iraq on weapons of mass destruction.

http://www.theweeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/004/152lndzv.asp

or maybe they can subpoena Slick Willie himself:

Clinton first linked al Qaeda to Saddam

during President Clinton's eight years in office, there were at least two official pronouncements of an alarming alliance between Baghdad and al Qaeda.

Don't kid yourself. If the American people understood that they wouldn't have elected this Congress.

Since the American people did elect this congress the American people will have to bear the consequences, whatever they will be.

All they need to do is show the footage of Hillary in the Senate during the debate prior to the war where she said plain as day that Saddam had WMD and ties to al Queda. Not to terrorists, to al Queda specifically. I heard the audio of the tape one night on the Jerry Doyle show, so it's out there. That'll get the Clintonistas to shut down this line of questioning with a quickness.

The question, as always, is, do the Pubbies have the spine to bring up the fact that Queen Hillary saw the same intelligence as President Bush and came to the same conclusion?

Levin will have to discredit the 9/11 Commission Report, which said there were links between Saddam and AQ, just there was no evidence of operational links. The Text of Joint Resolution On Iraq Passed By The United States Congress 296-133 by the House of Representatives and 77-23 by the Senate on October 10 and 11, 2002: stated the following:

"Whereas members of al-Qaida, an organization bearing responsibility for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests, including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are known to be in Iraq; "

I wish people would leave this alone in both directions - the issue is how best to handle the war we are in -we can let historians establish blame or credit for how we got in it.

Would you please quit making sense and start ranting.

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members...

It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."

Senator Hillary Clinton (Democrat, New York)
Addressing the US Senate
October 10, 2002

US State Department
November 4, 1998
Bin Laden, Atef Indicted in U.S. Federal Court for African Bombings

New York -- Usama bin Laden and Muhammad Atef were indicted November 4 in Manhattan federal court for the August 7 bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and for conspiring to kill Americans outside the United States.

Bin Laden's "al Qaeda" organization functioned both on its own and through other terrorist organizations, including the Al Jihad group based in Egypt, the Islamic Group also known as el Gamaa Islamia led at one time by Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, and a number of other jihad groups in countries such as Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia.

Bin Laden, the US Attorney charged, engaged in business transactions on behalf of Al Qaeda, including purchasing warehouses for storage of explosives, transporting weapons, and establishing a series of companies in Sudan to provide income to al Qaeda and as a cover for the procurement of explosives, weapons, and chemicals, and for the travel of operatives.

According to the indictment, bin Laden and al Qaeda forged alliances with the National Islamic Front in Sudan and with representatives of the Government of Iran and its associated terrorist group Hezballah with the goal of working together against their common enemies in the West, particularly the United States.

"In addition, al Qaeda reached an understanding with the Government of Iraq that al Qaeda would not work against that government and that on particular projects, specifically including weapons development, al Qaeda would work cooperatively with the Government of Iraq," the indictment said.

Beginning in 1992, bin Laden allegedly issued through his "fatwah" committees a series of escalating "fatwahs" against the United States, certain military personnel, and, eventually in February 1998, a "fatwah" stating that Muslims should kill Americans -- including civilians -- anywhere in the world they can be found.

"[W]e have evidence of meetings between Iraqi officials and leaders of al Qaeda, and testimony that Iraqi agents helped train al Qaeda operatives to use chemical and biological weapons. We also know that al Qaeda leaders have been, and are now, harbored in Iraq.

Having reached the conclusion I have about the clear and present danger Saddam represents to the U.S., I want to give the president a limited but strong mandate to act against Saddam."

I agree.

We`ve been saying this forever,

"Bush and the adminstration are finally going to get a backbone and bury the Dems with facts, etc, etc."

Problem is, Bush never does.

Levin`s committee with be scripted as stated, and the conclusions in their "report" written months in advance.
