Sgt. Hasan Akbar, Muslim American soldier, killed two colleagues and wounded 14 other troops after tossing grenades into tents while soldiers slept at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait on March 23, 2003. He wrote in his diary: "I am going to try and kill as many of them as possible."

The case is still dragging on, though - via Army Times (hat tip: Mike at Kokonut Pundits, whose cousin Maj. Gregory Stone was one of Akbar's victims):

The death sentence for convicted murderer Sgt. Hasan Akbar was approved late last week at Fort Bragg, N.C., by Lt. Gen. John R. Vines, commander if XXVIII Airborne Corps and court martial convening authority in the case. Akbar was sentenced to death in April 2005 by unanimous vote of a military panel for the March 23, 2003, grenade attack that killed Capt. Christopher Seifert and Maj. Gregory Stone....

But given our P.C. culture, he probably has an aide assigned to pick up his soap for him, and serve him his Halal meals while reading verses from the koran. Just nuts.

He's not confined in the Ritz-Carlton, but he isn't in some dank lockup subsisting on "pump and piss," i.e., bread and water either.

In fact, I would hazard a guess that he has accomodations equal to or better than the terrorists at Gitmo, including access to the Koran and meals that meet his religious dietary restrictions. He certainly has better legal representation than the terrorists, provided on the taxpayers dime. Along with justice being delayed, it's the enormous waste of resources and money on this character that irritates me.

The Governor of Texas can't unilaterally pardon a death row inmate. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has to recommend it first.

GB won't pardon him. He was firm on this as governor.

While in the military, I worked Nuremberg prison. Just like a civilian prison, prisoners look down upon child molesters, wife beaters and anyone who kills another soldier. Even though the prisoners are in custody, they have their standards. Someone will get to Akbar (Fubar) whatever his name is and dispose of the trash accordingly.

Bring back the tactics of Black Jack Pershing during the Phillipine Expedition against the mudslime insurgents in the early 1900's and you see an end to this kind of bull$hit real fast.
