One of these "lactivist" was on the radio tonight. Problem is, they militantly demand courtesy for "their rights", but show NO respect for the opinions of those who disagree with them. They bristle at the mere mention of being discreet. They brag about breastfeeding their kids until the ages of 3 or 4, to what purpose I can't fathom (but I sure would love to have a fair psychological analysis of that). At the same time, they try to force our local hospitals to not provide free formula samples to new mothers! They want to take that choice away from them because formula companies are eeeevil. They also berate mothers who can't or choose not to breastfeed, and they are quite rude about it. Anyone who disagrees with them "has a mental problem" or a "sexual hang-up".
These activists seem to completely miss the point that breasts ARE in fact sexual organs. Women should be allowed to buy themselves a size DD rack, and flaunt them suggestively in revealing clothing and that's feminist empowerment- "embrace your sexuality". Even breast cancer advocates exploit the inherent sexuality of breasts with a innuendo-based campaign called "Feel Your Boobies". So if breasts are only "for food", what's the point in all that? Breasts are for sex when they say so, and for food when they say so, and ne'er the twain meet, or the rest of us are "preverts"?!
Unfortunately this is the same side of the aisle that calls people uptight for decrying the increasing societal sexualization of young children, which is particularly rampant in marketing. So were not supposed to think anything is wrong with a 3 or 4 year old holding a Bratz doll and wearing a "Princess" haltertop while she is breastfeeding in public? Meanwhile, one year later they're trying to teach sex-ed to this same tot in kindergarten!
A quote from an episode of "Sex in the City" sums it up succinctly: "If they're old enough to ask for it, they're too old to have it!"
As for your grade: you're edging closer to first, but there's still dummies ahead of you.
Thanks. I'd already read three different versions, as I said. And this one did not say her breast was exposed to the public. Actually, with her husband in the aisle seat, high seat-backs in front of and behind her, and the window beside her, it's hard to see how it could have been. Unless somebody had a periscope.
Glad to set the story straight for you. It was only on every major media outlet.
Yeah, flight attendants just randomly wander the cabin asking for people to cover the heads of their infant children with towels. Righty right. I remember when I flew a couple of times when my oldest was an infant how accommodating they were. One talked some passengers out of their seats in the bulkhead to let me have more room (largest space on the plane, beats first class easy) and another helped me out when my daughter kept screaming either from ears or colic.
Either way, when a flight attendant asks you to do something, you do it. This jerkoff couple clearly did not and I guess the difference between you and I is that I would've said "Yep, you got it" whereas you would've raised holy hell.
As an example, I used to be a mgr. in a toy store that hosted kids activities, so there were lots of tots of all ages around. Most of the nursing moms cuddled up in one of the quiet corners of the store where they discreetly nursed under a receiving blanket, providing a calm moment for baby. But others would draw obvious attention to themselves loudly exclaiming in one way or another what she was about to do, then practically present her breast as if to dare others not to notice. These are the people who are so enamored of the solicitous attention they get while they are pregant that they continue to seek out attention through the baby in other ways, and I believe this psychology lies at the heart of some of these "lactivists".
One woman in particular took the prize. We had a long line as people waited to pay, before stepping into another line for free gift wrapping.
This woman was up in front of the crowd getting her gift wrapped by one of our 16 yr. old seasonal employees. Her baby began to stir (NOT fuss) and she practically yelled "OK, sweetie, OK. Mommy knows you want fed". Then she pulled open her blouse, yanked a boob out of her bra, propped the baby on the gift table and shoved the boob at him. She was almost on top of the present this poor gawky teenage boy was trying to wrap! He turned absolute crimson red and could barely hold himself together enough to finish wrapping her gift. Then off she went, floundering out the door with bare breast, attached baby, and gifts in tow. She could not wait literally 3 minutes to leave the store to feed her child. She CHOSE to make a huge production of it at the checkout counter in front of about 30 people, and made sure all eyes were on her.
What this woman has in common with the women in these "protests" is that they are also making a production out of feeding their children just to get media attention. How is this putting the true needs of their children first? They are using them! If these activists want to act like attention whores, then they should expect to treated like attention whores.
I already told you, twice, how I reacted (#377 and #397). Good-bye.
There is always a nut in any group.
I think the lactivists drew attention to the fact
that people shouldnt be so uptight about breastfeeding, and
that it is a good thing..which I completely agree with.
If people want to worry about flesh being shown the internet would be a much more worthy place to aim their anger, boobs and much worse is only a simple click away.
TV is getting bad too.
Yes...it's about discretion. Show me a single breast in any of those pictures. It's my opinion that one would have to really strain hard to be offended by a bare breast on one of these women.
The problem people had was with rude activists who try to get all up in other people's face about it (much the same way homosexual activists do). "Look at me"! "You must accept my behavior on my terms!" "You're a pervert and disturbed if you don't agree with me!" "You're a bad mother if you don't breastfeed like I do!"
I also think it's plainly evident that plenty of people on "the right side of the fence" DO worry far more about sexualization of our children and porn invading our media outlets than they do breastfeeding. We just don't like some of these lactivist media whores who pimp their boobs and babies for 15 minutes of fame.
Those babies ought to be drinking from a cup.
No problem with feeding the kid. She refused to cover the jug.
I agree. Thats what my daughter did.
Now this woman is just showing off.
Breastfeeders have my support.
I think the issue is blown out of proportion, including on this thread.
Comparing homosexual activists to breastfeeding
mothers is rediculous by the way.
Boob pimping is Janet Jackson at the Superbowl.
Breastfeeding mothers are natural,
people can just get over it imo.
Or they can chose to get all worked up about nothing,
I dont care.
Feed the babies, as discreetly as possible which as defined by the mother.
Moo!
I'll get over it as soon as the boob pimpers get out of our faces and out of the faces of mothers who choose not to breastfeed their babies, and stop harassing my local hospitals for giving free formula samples to new mothers who want them.
Up yours, you condescending jerk. You understand perfectly well the point I was making, even if you choose to ignore it. No doubt you'll feel, then, that toilets should be placed in the open waiting areas of airport terminals. It's all so natural, right? Good for you. It's not about pee and "poop", moron. It's about subjecting others to your need to exhibit your "all natural" bodily functions.
