Well then .. I guess they didn't get the message and they're not ready to win again in 2008!

Great!

Boehner has done nothing wrong.

He was part of the pork uber alles mindset in the last GOP House. We need a fiscal conservative, not more of the same.

Boehner has been proven to have some tenacity.

He chased McDermott through the courts for years.

Good for him. McDermott is a snake.

What's surprising is the low vote for Pence..He was chair of the Conservative Study Group..which had I believe 100+ members...and he only gets 27 votes?..very curious..

Remembering the past:
"... In the last two years, Gingrich and aggressive newcomers often have set the course of Republican strategy on issues like President Clinton's 1994 budget request and the House Bank and House Post Office scandals. And Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, a second-term member who attacked Democratic leaders in both scandals, praised [minority leader] Michel for "giving the troops the freedom to move on their own." "

If Boehner remembers his own words from 1994 and gives our "Gingrich-like" firebrands his help he may turn out a good choice.

If he plays safe and gets along like he saw Michel do we're doomed.

This is the GOB (Good Old Boys) patting each other on the back. Cigars all around.

Well, they refuse to listen to conservatives, so we move on. Sad.

Miss Marple; I know you are a Pence supporter too, but I agree with then next poster: The Republicans, just keep on not getting it..! THey lost their conservative ideals, lost their way, and now have lost their power (as a result) untill we STOP folling moderates; and Boehner Represents more of the same..), then we will continue to loose!! ;(

I was pulling for Pence. Will Boehner get the hint and push for conservative principles and cut his pork support? We'll see, but I'm skeptical. Not good. :-(

My concern was, that the media and the Democrats would go after Pence with the same viciousness as they did Delay.

He is far more a future threat to them that Boehner ever will be.

The would do everything they could to taint his reputation to the point he would be unable to seek higher office.

I take it you listen to Garrison?

Although I am disappointed that Pence only got 27 votes...because I really like him...

The 3 or 4 times that I saw Boehner on talk shows in the last few months...he was pretty outspoken..and didn't hold back on the war in Iraq..and what is necessary.

He IS a relatively new face/voice, since he just took over for Tom Delay in the last year.

I am a little more disappointed that they didn't go with the younger Pence for Whip....Blunt has had his time.

I don't even know why I'm reading this thread. I got really interested in politics after 9-11, and I thought we were going to be able to effect some real change in this country, ebut I'm now feeling like maybe there really AREN'T enough conservatives to have much clout in the way this country is run. Maybe it's better to learn to win under socialism than to hope that one day it will be vanquished. The whole world seems determined to try it out.

I'd like to stop following news etc for a while while I wait for the next big attack, but I think I'm hooked, even though the drug ain't getting the job done any more.

I think we should cut them some slack. Boehner is an ok guy, and the last few times I have seen him on TV he has done a pretty fair job.

Boehner's not too bad. I really have no problem with him. It's just disappointing on two counts:
We got NY Strip over Filet mignot and
We have yet to see a sign that they lost and they "get it". Of course, it is early.

No, they don't do they?

It bears watching for 2008.

If the Repubs continue to ignore their base, they're finished as a political party after 2008.

At least he can talk out better than Hastert.
Boehner/McConnell is better than Hastert/Frist who had no voice.

Like in the movie Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does."

The GOP leadership is just asking for another beating in 2008 and with that, President Hillary Clinton. Both of these guys have the charisma of a rock. They get whooped on TV like an 0-10 football team.

For sure when they solicit money from me, I will return the envelopes to them with zero dollars and a note. Change the leadership, then you get money. Till then you are wasting postage and paper.
