House Republicans picked John Boehner Friday to serve as minority leader when Democrats take control of Congress for the first time in 12 years in January.
Boehner defeated Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana in a closed-door election among colleagues. The Ohio winner was expected to speak after elections for other leadership positions concluded. Boehner received 168 votes, Pence 27 and Rep. Joe Barton of Texas won 1 vote.

An impressive win for Boehner.
Well, we have to fight with the army we have, not the one we wish we had.

Well, we have to fight with the army we have, not the one we wish we had. It's not much of an army, and we're likely going to have to fight it about as much as we fight the RATs.

Well, in 40 years or so, perhaps there will be another shift in Congressional control--assuming, of course, that there will be a Congress to control in 40 years.

Well, we have to fight with the army we have, not the one we wish we had.Sounds as absurd as when Rummy said it about the force we had when we elected to go into Iraq.

I'm begining to wonder if we are going to have a Government by 2008.....never mind in 40 years....and with these crazy idiots that just took over everything, are any of going to be around by 2008???? I'm sure they are going to get us all killed...

In case you didn't notice, the privates don't pick the generals.
Life isn't fair, and things don't always work out the way we wish.
Continued carping isn't getting us anywhere. Our job is to convince Congressman Boehner to do a better job. If we spend our time dumping on him, we will get NOTHING, and will lose even more in 2008.

It appears we have a largely shell-shocked Republican caucus in the U.S. House who are unwilling to crawl out of the foxhole of the status quo. The vote for significant change and taking a risk wasn't even close.
To: steveegg
Nice. With Boehner as minority leader and Mel Martinez as part-time RNC chairman, we can look forward to another 40 years in the wilderness.

Shoulda been Mike Pence, but since he's not a member of the GOP Old Boys Club, we get Boehner.
Boehner's OK, but he's not my favorite.
