Mitt Romney-Jeb Bush for GOP Ticket in 2008?
News Max ^

Posted on 11/15/2006 9:25:46 PM PST by MinorityRepublican

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has hired several of Jeb Bush’s top aides, leading to speculation that Romney may be courting the outgoing Florida governor for a possible Romney-Bush 2008 ticket for the White House.

After Bush’s former chief of staff and top political adviser, Sally Bradshaw, joined Romney’s Commonwealth political action committee earlier this month, Romney flew to Florida to join Bush for campaign events and fund-raisers - and to gauge Bush’s interest in being a running mate, sources told the Boston Herald.

Soon after, Bush’s chief finance director, Ann Woods Herberger, also joined Romney’s political action committee.

Bush has ruled out running for president himself. But agreeing to accept the vice presidential post would allow him to "run on the national ticket without having to run for the ticket,” since vice presidential candidates are chosen, not elected, political analyst David Mark, a former political reporter who covered Gov. Bush, told the Herald.

and it hardly seemed to hurt him in flyover country.

Bush's margin of victory was decided by the Courts. Do you really wanna go through THAT crap again?

"Republicans don't need to strengthen their support in the south"

I can't speak for the entire region, but you're wrong as far as North Carolina is concerned. Might as well beat on a hornet's nest with a baseball bat, for all the love lost over foreign trade, illegal immigration, corruption and immorality. Republicans could very well have a hand in creating a populist monster, if they continue to ignore this.

<< Or vice versa. >> Yep, either way America's the Winner. But Mr Gingrich is the Historian - and that's critically important right now.

With all the nonsense about who's electable in the Northeast, or can win in the South, Newt Gingrich is the only person who has the proper perspective of the broad conflict in which the United States and Isreal are currently involved.

"As of 2005, Massachusetts has an estimated population of 6,398,743, which is a decrease of 8,639, or 0.1%, from the prior year and an increase of 49,638, or 0.8%, since the year 2000."

According to actual census data, the population in Massachusetts in 2000 was 6,349,097 and the population in 2005 was 6,398,743. A nearly 40k increase. It's quite true people have left, but the birth rate and immigration due to increased business opportunities during Romney's tenure has helped offset that.

Tell me, what state does Gingrich help us win that isn't already in our backpocket? Because, I'll be honest, I don't expect even Lincoln Chafee could lose Georgia as the Republican nominee. How in the world does Gingrich help us offset the inevitable loss of Ohio? I like Gingrich as much as the next guy, but he is simply not a viable option in 08. Too much baggage, too little in the way of strategic attributes to help us take the White House.

Mitt Romney is an advocate of mandatory and subsidized Hillarycare. Chuck Hagel is a better candidate: right on the second amendment, right on free markets, and the only candidate in the race who was, and is, right on Iraq.

The names "Bush" or "Clinton" have been on every Presidential ticket since 1980.

I've had quite enough.

You and me both.

I'm sure the Democrats would be beside themselves with joy if this was the ticket. There are very few other combinations of Republicans on a presidential ticket that would do more to assure the ascension of The Beast in Pants Suits to the Oval Office.

I love Rick. Please dont get me wrong...nor should you assume I live in VT (read the tagline.)

I just think we have to change our thinking and our candidates.

The GOP blew it. Its time to get rid of the old school guys and that means losing some good people. But, its necessary to move past the big spending, greedy, guys who have been running things.

We need a conservative party that keeps spending in line, taxes low, and defense as strong as possible. We need to them focus on the real issues, not put flag burning up to another vote.

We need leaders who can get serious and get things done.

Santorum is the only Senator that I've ever taken the time to write to, outside of the idiots that MA sends to DC every six years. It is too bad that PA couldnt get him back.

That said, if he couldn't win his own state, he isnt going to be effective in the national race.

Santorum was a proud advocate of Compassionate Conservativism (using big government).

Chuck Hagel? Chuck Hagel of the "Amnesty for all" and "surrender to the terrorists" variety? That Chuck Hagel? Right...

Please, no more Bushes.

I hear that! Bush 1 gave us Clinton because his no new taxes pledge went by the wayside, and p*****d of voters went to Perot. I can just see the second coming of The Clintons, courtesy of Son of Bush. I really used to like the guy, but the New Tone thing backfired big time, and that was four years ago, and he had no plan 'B,' just keep on New Toning until it works, which of course will never happen. Bushes as President let the Democrats set the Bipartisan agenda, and we don't need any damn bipartisanship, it only works when the Democrats get what they want.

Thank you for your response and your patience with me regarding my failure to read your tagline. I apologize. My parents live in Vermont. They love the countryside, but hate the way the state has been taken over by socialists. It's really obscene up there. I spent six (6) months up there in '05, and I simply could not believe the way the place is run. And Pennsylvania is no Heaven on Earth, but Vermont is outrageous. Natives who find it distasteful are so discouraged. The roads are like something out of the Stone Age and natives themselves refer to it as the "Welfare State."!! It is too bad because as I'm sure you are well aware given your tagline, it is beautiful.

Please forgive me for not reading your tagline and therefore making an unfair assumption.

As for Rick Santorum, I believe we have not seen the last of him by any means. Individuals such as Rick cannot be kept down.

Issue by issue he is a better candidate than anyone else running, certainly better than Romney, McCain, and Giuliani. Let me also note that Romney is also very bad on gun control.

I echo that. I think the Bush name will be too tired - and looks to aristocratic. We need fresh people, not political dynasties.
