Mitt Romney-Jeb Bush for GOP Ticket in 2008?
News Max ^

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has hired several of Jeb Bush’s top aides, leading to speculation that Romney may be courting the outgoing Florida governor for a possible Romney-Bush 2008 ticket for the White House.

After Bush’s former chief of staff and top political adviser, Sally Bradshaw, joined Romney’s Commonwealth political action committee earlier this month, Romney flew to Florida to join Bush for campaign events and fund-raisers - and to gauge Bush’s interest in being a running mate, sources told the Boston Herald.

Soon after, Bush’s chief finance director, Ann Woods Herberger, also joined Romney’s political action committee.

Bush has ruled out running for president himself. But agreeing to accept the vice presidential post would allow him to "run on the national ticket without having to run for the ticket,” since vice presidential candidates are chosen, not elected, political analyst David Mark, a former political reporter who covered Gov. Bush, told the Herald.

Jeb Bush has been a phenomenal governor. He would be an outstanding president.

However, U.S. citizens will not accept another Bush on a presidential ticket in 2008. Three Bush Presidents in as many decades is too much of a dynasty in a free nation with 300 million residents.

Jeb for Secretary of Education, or Secretary of Commerce, or maybe even Chief of Staff.

But sorry, you can't put another Bush on the ticket this soon.

Are there any Republicans named Kennedy that we could run?

FWIW, I'd never vote for a guy who's got people fleeing his state. MA could lose one or two House seats next census. There's a reason for that. Romney's part of it.

We must never forget that our electorate is indeed more than stupid enough to equate George W. Bush with his brother Jeb.

If that's the best pro Bush push you can come up with then well...read my tagline. Blackbird.

"Just to put paid to the "Mitt Romney" rumors, he's toast.

Governor Mitt Romney signed Massachusetts' 2002 Assault Weapons Ban.

He also campaigned on a platform of not changing a single pro-abortion law.

Oh, and for all of you born after the 2002 Olympics (or out of the country, or just not paying attention), Mitt Romney got Salt Lake City busted for **BRIBING** the International Olympic Committee.

You see, Govenor Romney chaired SLC's Olympics.

Any questions?!"

Campaigning on the promise of changing no abortion law was a brilliant manuever that shows just how savvy he is. In Massachussetts, the only conceivable abortion laws that might be passed are pro-abortion laws. Indeed, this has played itself out in his term. His clout nixed the legislatures plan to get rid of parental notification/consent and he vetoed a stem-cell bill. Thus, he gets to seem fair and moderate, while in practice, promoting a pro-life position. As for the Olympics, Romney did an absolutely job there. No idea what you're smoking.

"It's not baggage, it's a compelling reason for someone concerned about ethics to vote for him. It would be virtually impossible to find a way to blame Romney for any of that corruption, while it's not hard to make the case he cleaned it up."

Indeed, Romney wasn't anywhere NEAR the Olympics during that scandal. He was not affiliated with the Olypmics in any way whatsoever. He was out running Bain Capital, his wildly successful business firm.

"FWIW, I'd never vote for a guy who's got people fleeing his state. MA could lose one or two House seats next census. There's a reason for that. Romney's part of it."

Massachussetts has seen population stabilizing and even growing over the last two years (something that hasn't happened in nearly a decade). Again, absolutely NONE of these things can be pinned on Romney. And fleeing his state? The only reason Patrick one is because Romney has done such an excellent job with the state. When things are going poorly in various (economically and fiscally mainly), Republicans have a shot at the Massachussetts mansion. Because people rightly realize that the wildly Democratic legislature is at fall for most of the difficulties and are willing to take a chance on a Republican. But when things are going well, which they certainly are here in Mass- unemployment has dropped by nearly 1.5% since Romney took office, we have a billion dollar surplus and have had surpluses of above 500 million for every year of his governorship, education standards are improving from their already relatively lofty levels, and taxes are fairly low- everyone votes their natural inclinations (which here, is pure blue) because they've forgotten what disasters Democratic governors and Democratic legislatures are. Could Mitt have won against Deval? Maybe. He would have picked up 10% at least on Healey's total. But with everything purring economically, people would have looked at things in his record that weren't relevant in 2002. Like for instance the fact that he's, bar none, the most conservative Governor in Massachussetts in half a century. Even all his charisma might not have been enough to overcome that. And what does anyone gain from another losing, and therefore damaged goods, Republican incumbent governor? Especially one with all the qualities necessary to be an excellent president. Absolutely nothing is what.

Olympic bribes at SLC

Romney came in after the scandal broke and cleaned things up. He turned what could, easily, have been a disaster into a very successful Olympics. I repeat he had zero involvement in the bribe stuff and was brought in to clean house and turn the operation around. And he did.

The MSM would actually avoid that story (goes against the Dim 'Republicans are corrupt' line).

I think that Mitt went to SLC AFTER the scandal to clean it up. I dont disagree about not being a big fan of Mitt, but there is no need to tag him with stuff that he didnt do.
