I hate hate laws.
Dems wacked away at the 2nd amendment now they want to kill the 1st..
What is ironics, as the ADL passes these laws, the group that will use them the most are muslims.
And they want to take away all of your guns (even BB guns) so they won't go bad and harm a minority breaking into your house.
And, speaking out for the right to keep and bear arms, or how the Iraq war was a good idea, would be banned. And so would speaking out against Pelosi and Obama, and Pelosicare.
This is one piece of scary legislation.
As much as I like that some legislation didn't get passed, I am very uncomfortable with the use of the majority to block votes on legislation, instead of using persuasion to convince people of the superiority of your position on the matter.
One of Newt's 1994 promises was to allow votes on things on the floor. Oddly, that's also one of Pelosi's promises now, to allow republicans a vote on the floor for their amendments.
I think that was and is a good thing, even though it does mean that sometimes you will end up with bad legislation, when a majority of the house loses it's mind.
It's just wrong to use tricks and deception to slip things into bills, or to keep bills from being voted on. It's one of the things that contributed to overspending and complacency, as the republicans figured that they didn't have to hold hearings and make persuasive arguments, they simply had to sideline bills and sneak stuff into conference reports.
Hate speech = anythinhg a non-WASP finds offensive.
"Pres. Bush has said he will sign a "modified" hate bill."
Of course he'll sign it -- he's a closet liberal with a track record that reveals his disdain for free speech.
I will certainly go out of my way to break this law should it ever pass..
"free speech in America will quickly come to an end."
There has been no free speech for many years now.
But will it survive a veto.
VETO and FILLIBUSTER
Letter to the Editors, Washington Times, circa fall, 1998:
In the waning hours of the 105th Congress, quiet efforts to pass controversial legislation are under way.
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act... cites violence based on sexual orientation as a Hate Crime.
Hate Crimes have commonly been racially motivated. Only in Canada has sexual orientation been included in anti-hate and human rights legislation. The Canadian law does not focus exclusively on physical violence-- it includes all forms of communication as well.
...As a Canadian living in the United States, I fear for your freedom, mainly because you take it for granted.
If my words were published in a Canadian newspaper... I would be charged with inciting hate under the criminal code.
Freedom of speech no longer exists in Canada-- I could not state that AIDS is largely found within the homosexual community, nor quote statistics to back up my assertion.
My opinion would make me a criminal. Since "tolerance" has been redefined... only Political Correctness is tolerated...
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act is a signifigant foot in the door for homosexual rights lobbyists-- it validates the entire... movement as an endangered group in need of special legislative protection.
Violence against any person is already illegal, no matter what the motive.
I find it offensive that violence is noteworthy only when the victim ( is)... a member of some political action group.

I wonder if this will be part of the "Minority protection and gun control act" which also bans all semi-auto rifles, handguns, and pump action shotguns???
In other words, the Democrats aren't the only ones to blame for this. Our RINO President will share the blame. Good reason to make sure the next GOP Presidential nominee is true conservative.
Murtha calls ethics bill "Total Crap"

Ethics covers 'hate' crimes....right?!
Is there a link to the actual bill text? There seems to be a lot of "OMG!!!!!!!" in this article w/out much in the way of sources.
I have a feeling that it will not be a crime to defame white Christian males.
