Murtha calls ethics bill "Total Crap"

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a group of Democratic moderates on Tuesday that an ethics and lobbying reform bill being pushed by party leaders was "total crap," but said that he would work to enact the legislation because Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports it.

Murtha and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) are locked in a battle for the House Majority Leader post, and both men made presentations for to the Blue Dog Coalition on Tuesday in a bid for their votes.

"Even though I think it's total crap, I'll vote for it and pass it because that's what Nancy wants," Murtha told the Blue Dogs, according to three sources who were at the meeting...

Murtha is kind of right. The corruption bill is a bunch of crap. I was just reading over the gift disclosures, anything over $20 in value has to be reported. It would almost be a full time job reporting the nick knacks that constituents send in daily.

In a roundabout way he is sticking to his principles. He is one of the most corrupt Congressmen on the Hill, and he thinks this ethics bill is total crap. He's not looking after the people who sent him there, he's making sure his corruption isn't kiboshed.

Some stuff you just cannot make up. If he cannot see the irony of this statement and what he intends to do about it...as an ethics bill no less...than he is convicted by his own words. No real shocker there.

I saw a video clip of Murtha yesterday standing at a microphone with Nancy next to him. He had his arm around her and was squeezing her as he spoke.

You shoulda seen the look on Nancy's face. She looked like she wanted to sneak out, but she just stood there with a smile on her face.
