Get ourselves a party, I guess.
Constitution Party sounds better every day.

I dount Pence will number 1. But I guess we should know sson. As to Trent Lott being mad. I think he has gotten over the way he was abandoned by his GOP collegues. He must have because his fellow Senators have voted him in.

If Lott is the best we've got, then we're going to be in the minority for a long time. But he isn't. We have Jeff Sessions, John Cornyn, Jon Kyl. We have some real conservatives. That makes this doubly disappointing.

You are so right. If it weren't for Lott we can be sure Specter would have voted FOR Clinton's removal.

Let me be the contrarian who thinks this is GREAT. Trent Lott was a great Whip in the House and the Senate. Much better man for the job than milquetoasty Lamar Alexander, and Alexander is up for reelection in 2008 and needs to pay attention to his own race.

Good move ONLY if they have a Pence or the like at #1.. Trent is experienced, pissed off and ready to bang heads. Pence is in the House, not the Senate.

This is actually smart. (Putting absestos long johns on now).
We need someone who actually knows all the parliamentary games to be whip. We don't need some freshman. Especailly a moderate freshman like Lamar "tax the internet" Alexander.
The man we need at whip is, regretfully, Trent Lott.

Typical ignornance we have come to expect from our elected representatives.
I sometimes think they seek election merely to accept democratic bribes to sell us down the river in congress.
Thank goodness mitch was elected minority leader.
Notice how the dems are acting as if they are running the government? Notice how when they say xxxxxxx, the media and all accept that xxxxxxx will be a fact.
This is a lesson that should be learned by us - you are only as strong as you believe you are and just accept that the media will never help the GOP.

What I don't understand is Mitch McConnell .. a far stronger senator. Why would he not be up for majority leader? Same old, same old ... and how bad does it have to be when our best was a choice was between Alexander and Lott? Pathetic.

Well 25 voted for him, 24 voted for Lamar. It's not the ringiest of endorsements.
Skip the whole Strom Thurmond thing. The idea of recycling leadership is just bad politics, bad policy. You want somebody in leadership who is going to be a fresh face for a fresh start for 2008. Trent is a message of same old same old. Lamar, though he has been around for awhile, only really gets exposure when he wears flannel and runs for President.
