Best Buy bans MERRY CHRISTMAS in their stores
Click here for info on Best Buy banning MERRY CHRISTMAS ^

Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas."

Dawn Bryant, a spokeswoman at Best Buy Co. Inc., says their advertising will not be using the term "Merry Christmas." "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," Bryant said. While many other retailers have decided to return to the traditional "Merry Christmas", Best Buy will not be among them. Best Buy considers the use of "Merry Christmas" to be disrespectful.

I was in one yesterday, and their prices run 10%+ higher than circuit city. I mentioned it to a salesboy, nad he agreed. Said sorry, too.

Now I know Corporate are a bunch of jerks, i won't go there anymore.

Didn't Wal-Mart ban Christmas last year? Now they are "bringing Christmas" back. I guess it's time for Best Buy to learn from someone else's mistakes--let alone their own.

Don't forget that Best Buy is also FUTURE SHOP. Boycott all Future Shops stores too!

When their cash registers are NOT ringing in the "holidays" -- they will wise up!

You know, Bill O'Reilly got a lot of flack over this kind of story last year, but I'm just corny enough to believe that most people are NOT offended by the phrase Merry Christmas, and I'll be glad to take my CHRISTMAS shopping ELSEWHERE to those who aren't going to be so PC about it! :-p

Buh-bye, Best Buy!

Circuit City has a unique opportunity here, hopefully they will resist the PC plague and seize it.

That's what I was thinking. "We're not afraid to say Merry Christmas in our stores." If they were smart they would seize this opportunity.

Geez, are they still allowed to say 'hello' or 'have a nice day?' Are their employees still allowed to think? PC run amuck!!! And I did plan to but a 48" flat screen TV from Best Buy? Oh well, guess I'll go to WalMart instead.....

I'm starting to get more annoyed with all the threads dedicated to companies not using "Merry Christmas" than I am about the actual act itself.

Last Christmas I was beginning to think that was the only thing this site was about.

I will be happy not to click on any in the future.

I got taken by Best Buy when the general manager of a store lied to me about what was covered by their "service plan" for computers and didn't find out about it until I actually needed service. This was in a year where I had spent over $4,000 at Best Buy. Luckily, the manufacturer's standard warranty gave me better service than the nonexistent play I paid BB $300 for. I'd avoid Best Buy for their policy (and it is an unofficial policy) of lying to make high-margin sales, more than for anything they do or don't say around Christmastime.

When will people learn that respecting the faith or beliefs of others, does not mean abandoning your own?

I just sent Circuit City the following comment:

The Circuit City URL is http://www.circuitcity.com/cs_customer_email.jsp?c=1

I think that if I go to Best Buy during the Christmas season, I'll make a "Merry Christmas, Best Buy" sign and tape it to my coat and wear it.

They also have a history of advertising an item at a steep discount, then when you get there, they don't have that item (of course) but have a very similar one right next to it (close enough that you think they're the same thing) for full price. You have to actually look at the SKU number that they advertise to be sure you're getting the discounted item, it's that close. I think it's a deliberate bait-and-switch.

If a retailer is going to subvert the true meaning of the holiday the least they can do is wish me a "Merry Christmas"! (/sarc)

Here's a better way to let them know: main phone number is 612-291-1000. CEO is Bradbury Anderson (?sp?). Depending on whether a live operator answers or not, maybe we can even do a dial by name and reach his extension directly.
