Democrats to 'revisit' law creating border fence By Shaun Waterman UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL November 11, 2006 Democrats will look again at the legislation mandating 698 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border and might seek to scrap the plan altogether when they take control of Congress next year. Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, told reporters this week that he expected to "revisit" the issue when he becomes chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the 110th Congress. Mr. Thompson said the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new border enforcement program, known as the Secure Border Initiative or SBI Net -- which includes monitors, cameras and other integrated surveillance systems -- is a viable alternative to fencing. "We might do away with it, or look at [integrating it into] SBI Net," he said. "A virtual fence rather than a real one."

Don't pay any attenton to Dane - he's one of the most vocal supporters of open borders (specifically) and liberalism (in general) on FR. In fact, counting the number of times you disagree with Dane is probably a more effective way of certifying your conservatism than anything the ACU uses.
That is utter bull! It was the House that blocked the Senate's plan. The House is where the GOP drew the line on immigration.
Had it not been for the House the Senate's bill would have moved forward.
Thanks for the tip on Geo. Putnam.
Nice to know he's still kickin'!
To GWB: OBL > GOP >> Conservatism.
Thanks. I will make it a point to ignore him in the future. No information, only insults. Must be a liberal.
I recall in early 2001 that the Bush amnesty plan in 2001 was stopped by the Democrats. The Democrats were screaming loud and clear that there were other illegals here that should be considered also. I did find verification of this in a PBS article and a Vdare article if you want to go there and read.
The last I heard is that we have 39,000 illegal Chinese that China refuses to take back. Some of the countries that we deport to won't even take their people back. The U.S. has been trashed big-time.
Ditto. Exactly what I said when it was passed and signed. Covers only 1/3 of border with no provision for funding. Both parties sought to mollify the pre-election majority of Americans who are upset that we no longer have a southern border. The MSM will, of course, blame Bush and the GOP, knowing that Bush won't bother to defend himself since he's been soft on border security all along.
Its really weird.
Did you read that interview that a newspaper did with V. Fox years back? He talked about a phone conversation that he had with Bush in the days following 9/11. Fox said that at that point he had essentially given up hope regarding a big new immigration (amnesty) accord but that Bush personally assured him that it that it was still a big part of his agenda.
Fox admitted that he was very surprised with Bush's words. That's really got to tell you something. At a point where even Fox realizes that he can no longer push the U.S. for legalizing illegals Jorge instructs him not to worry and to keep the faith.
Unreal.
The rap on GHWB was that he was an 'out of touch' blueblood, but W makes dad look like a man of the people.
Killing off the fence is just the beginning. The Rats know that 9O or more out of every 100 Hispanics in the US will be Rat voters in 08 and every election thereafter, because they intend to bestow the gift of citizenship on millions of illegals by way of the amnesty bill they intend to pass and which Bush will no doubt sign.
Once the Rats have 90% or more of the Hispanic vote sewed up for the next several generations along with the 90+ % of the black vote they always get, we're looking at a Rat majority in the US for as long as they can keep both ethnic groups reasonably well satisfied at the same time. The more I ponder the probable results of this disastrous election the more convinced I am that the US is living on borrowed time just as surely as it's living on borrowed money.
I'm in my 70th year now, so I probably won't be still around to see all of the chickens that were hatched in Tuesday's election come home to roost. But what weighs most heavily on my mind is that my children and grandchildren will be.
Uh I guess you have selective literacy, since you clearly didn't see REPUBLICAN Senator Cornyn saying the fence would NEVER be funded in the first place.
What would you do if your country consistently failed to protect your border if that failure directly threatened the lives of your wife, family, grandkids, etc? When government fails, it is our responsibility to act...our forefathers understood this well.
Yea but let me ask this again,
are we talking about a border fence (gooood) or are we talking about Texas seceding (baaaaaad)
Well, we need to keep a good list of all the changes just one liners that they pass in the House and the Senate and continue to drill that in for the Presidential election...also the headlines from from Al Qaeda:
*Dems push for phased withdrawal
*Dems pass legislation to not fund the border fence date and article
*Dems threaten draft date and article
Etc. the American people will eventually get it....
