Democrats to 'revisit' law creating border fence By Shaun Waterman UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL November 11, 2006 Democrats will look again at the legislation mandating 698 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border and might seek to scrap the plan altogether when they take control of Congress next year. Rep. Bennie Thompson, Mississippi Democrat, told reporters this week that he expected to "revisit" the issue when he becomes chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the 110th Congress. Mr. Thompson said the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) new border enforcement program, known as the Secure Border Initiative or SBI Net -- which includes monitors, cameras and other integrated surveillance systems -- is a viable alternative to fencing. "We might do away with it, or look at [integrating it into] SBI Net," he said. "A virtual fence rather than a real one."

IIRC, one of the times Bush tried to pass the shamesty, the Dims stopped him. The Dims claim was that he wasn't addressing all the OTMs. Bush wants it for Mexicans only. Wasn't the "Comprehensive" plan for Mexicans only?

I don't recall that. Certainly Bush's guest worker program appears to be meant for Mexicans. The Dems have been smart enough to put a Rep label on comprehensive immigration reform despite the fact that the overwhelming Rep members of Congress [House and Senate] are against it. It is really a Dem/WH initiative.
It was Bush that signed the authorization for the fence as well.
Thank the single issue voters that allowed a Democrat House to take over.
Had the GOP remained in control of the House, the fence would have been built, since Bush signed the Bill.
The RNC withheld backing of the Republican running for Congress here in Arizona (AZ-8). The Republican, Randy Graf, lost to a Democrat who was a board member of the local ACLU. The Democrat is in favor of Amnesty.
Perhaps its not a bad idea for the Democrats to try and impeach George Bush.
Well, at least they can say they taught the GOP a lesson for not being pure enough. Of course, in the process the damage to the country is considerable. But they can sit back smug and happy (as their taxes go up and the danger to our troops increases).
I have not seen anyone discussing New York. Democrats gained all top statewide offices on the ballot - governor, attorney general, comptroller and a U.S. Senate seat - for the first time since 1942.
East of the Appalachian Mountains Republicans are becoming nonexistent.
I'll try to find an article describing what I think was the first attempt at amnesty by Bush.
I did find an article prior to 9/11 that is interesting. This article was dated 08/2001. Bush has been pushing this for years even after Mexico slapped him in the face regarding 9/11.

What this will accelerate is the transformation of the US into the South American model - more and more gated communities with high fences and armed security guards. Those who can afford it will be protected, the rest will will have to make their way in a dangerous and dirty society.

We've had 7 murders in 7 days.
At one time, it had the best schools, was one of a few high tech bases, had a magnificent beach AND you could even walk the streets.
I think the stat is that only 40% of kids graduate from high school. How much money is THAT down the drain?? The City is a major DEM stronhold and look what the people are that vote!!!
