November 11th is the general's birthday and he like Donald Rumsfeld, resigned during war. General Patton was relieved of his command and decided to resign and Rumsfeld ...well few know the real reason for his resignation...

We need him now. Of course, he would be in jail under Dingy Harry and Nancy so not much good to us.

Both men were hounded by reporters...the kind that hate strong patriotic Americans.

"Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies, and establish Thy justice among men and nations. Amen."
Huah!

The traitorous media would be hounding forever about his remark during the "battle fatigue" incident.

General Patton was fighting a Conventional War. We are fighting a counter insurgency. Your "War the Right way" dogma was tried in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
It failed miserably. Patton would know better then to try and fight his style war today. Same way he would no more advocate fighting World War 2 with a World War 1 army.
You insult his memory by trying to use him as a political propaganda prop.

in the field surgery:
Patton: What's the matter with you?
Soldier: I can't take it sir
Patton: What did you say?
Soldier: It's my nerves - I can't stand the shelling any more
Patton: Hell you're just a GD coward!

I always tried to get my dad to talk about WWII. It was like pulling teeth to get him to open up. He served with the 250th which was attached to Gen LeClare and then Gen. Patten.
When the movie Patton came out I rented it hoping that he would discuss some of the history. His only response was "They sure cleaned up his language for the movie".

You have misunderstood...I realize that Patton - if he could that is - would fight one this differently. I was pointing out the similarities..not making any political analogy.
So what should we be doing differently...

My dad too...but he died before I was old enough to ask the questions.
Given the situation today - we probably would have lost WWII if we had to fight it like today.
