November 11th is the general's birthday and he like Donald Rumsfeld, resigned during war. General Patton was relieved of his command and decided to resign and Rumsfeld ...well few know the real reason for his resignation...

Yes the troops loved him------There is only one scene where anyone says anything about wanting Patton dead (besides the Germans of course)...the scene in Sicily where they are on the road to Messina and he is tough on his second in command Maj. Gen. Lucian K. Truscott.

No other place in the film says anything like that

There is the scene that one of the GIs says, "yeah our blood his guts."

However, I think the movie does present a good illustration of what causes a lot of our problems today. People worried more about how the job gets done rather than getting the job done.

What I wouldn't give to have that old b@$tard around today. He'd rip the liberals a new one; plus he would get to see his reincarnation (me).

I hope there are more than just you. (Hope you don't mind) :>)

He also PI$$ED in the RHINE as he crossed the Bridge at Ramagen! At least that is the story my Uncle told me.

Of course...I remember that one. You are always going to find some resentful types. The Spartans are long gone. but Patton had paid his dues in theater...many times.

Leave him at peace in Belgium. He has done his job more magnificently than many Americans.

"the most contemptible race of men that exist."

Especially when you have people like Jack Anderson and Drew Person leading the charge.

The equation in the body of the piece was what I was referring to. If you didn't write it, I apologize.

Interesting quote. The best generals working for the papers...I would imagine the editors to be the most sniveling skunky cowards.

My Dad was in the 506th (101st) at the battle of Bastogne.
Patton saved them with his Christmas run of 100 miles.
Only thing Dad would ever say about the war was how cold it was in a foxhole on the outskirts of Bastogne for almost a month.NUTS

There is no body ---I simply posted a happy birthday to a great US hero and a reminder to all about how much he is missed.

I never said that Patton equals Rumsfeld...although I admire the way Rumsfeld manhandled the press many times and that - one could say - does bear a similarity to Patton's style....and the whole resignation thing.

If he did live to a ripe old age, I do see the world as a different place. Not that he wanted to enter politics after his Army career but he would have probably been pressed into it as he knew he could do better than others running the show.

I at least see him as being at the forefront of the anti political correct history movement. He would smoke all of the lib whiners with a vast knowledge they only wish they had.
