Newly re-elected Sen. Joe Lieberman has been promised by Sen. Harry Reid – who is in line to become the next Senate Majority Leader – that he will support Lieberman’s efforts to become chairman of the powerful Homeland Security Committee.

In a private phone call on Wednesday, Nevada’s Reid told Lieberman that he would recognize Lieberman as the senior Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which would facilitate Lieberman’s move into the post.

>> He might have last year. I don't know. His lifetime ACU is in the mid 80's, which isn't that much less then Santorum. Lieberman's, on the other hand, is in the high 20's. Conservative's reaction to both McCain and Lieberman are a lot more emotional then logical. <<

Yeah, freeper PrimeChoice insisted the ACU ratings for McCain didn't reflect his votes on "important issues" so he demanded a list of where McCain record on "important issues" like abortion, gun rights, Iraq war, tax cuts, school choice, etc. I went through the list line by line and proved McCain was "with us" on about 80% of the them, and since PrimeChoice didn't get the answers he expected/wanted, he decided to hold his ears and go "lalalalalala"

McCain might be a shameless media whore for the cameras but his record in the Senate really isn't that bad.

The same can be said for the freepers who have a fanatical hatred of Lindsey Graham but support a pro-terrorist Clintonite RINO like Peter King. Or the freepers who think Zell Miller was a conservative patriot but his successor Johnny Isakson is a useless RINO. Their records simply do not match people's impressions here.

The fact so many people value style over substance is one of the reasons we have such a lousy Congress. McCain gets ripped mercilessly for McCain-Feingold because he's a jerk, Zell Miller champions it and nobody notices that cuz he gives folksy patrotic sounding speeches to conservative activisits.

If people would just get their heads of their butts and vote on record rather than rhetoric, we'd have a much better legislature.

That's the problem with a certain sect of people here on FR. They want to be appeased, loudly, rather then actually make progress on the issues.

The most obvious proof of this is the amount of people around here to take the mindbogglingly stupid position of "I'd vote for Giuliani but not McCain." There is absolutely no logical reason to have this position if issues are what you care about. It comes down to the fact that they like Giuliani just because he talks nice to them, even though every single disagreement they have with McCain is AT LEAST as bad if not worse with Giuliani. And Giuliani is pro-abortion, while McCain has 100% from right-to-life.

Overall, I agree with both men more often then I don't, and especially during a time of war, I'd gladly support either in the general. But try telling that to some Freepers around here and you'll get an emotional rant.

That's why the Republicans need to deny the dems as many wins as possible. The dems will try Clintonian tactics to pass little no-nothing bills and make it appear they are doing something when they are not. Clinton was a master at this tactic in declaring monuments and other crap. One could say the little stuff has marginal damage but it creates false perception in the public and we should deny them that. The dems did the same thing to the Republicans if you recall.

I can't find McCain's rating, since he didn't run this year, but Lieberman's got an F, so McCain can't possibly be worse.

Sure he can. He's ostensibly a party member wherein support for the right to keep and bear arms is an important part of the platform! I'd rather have the worst RAT in the world in charge than a RINO who's scheming to stab me in the back. So far as I'm concerned, there are durned FEW 'Pubblie candidates I have seen thus far who will do more than lip service for the 2nd Amendment. Maybe Newt. Certainly Tom Tancredo....but he's not well known and may very well be off the charts as being too extreme.

However, if this thing plays out as it could...with the main and overriding issue being illegal immigration then Tancredo has a real shot. Even Sean Hannity made this observation. Fact of the matter is, in the privacy of the voting booth, a LOT of white, anglo Democrats are going to be in full panic mode on this issue. If they have a real reason to vote for a guy with the huevos to get the job done....it could happen.

Uhh...yah...no.

I'm not going to vote for a Pat Buchannan clone for President.

And in case you didn't notice, Tancredo's crowd got thumped.

Graf - loss.

Hayworth - loss.

And in Hayworth's case, he was suppose to win easily.

Wait for a year of RAT control. Wait for the reality of that trans Texas tollway linking Mexico to Canada. Wait for the next wave of immigrant invasion and the accompanying crime waves....just...wait. Have you read Tancredo's book? I have. He's no Buchanan.

Between Susan Collins (old camel nose) and JO-o, the nasal sounds were enough to drive me bats. Maybe lumber yard Sue will just sit there and drone under her breath now.

Tancredo himself won handily though, and there are plenty of people who target him for defeated in both the primary and the general. A number of RINOs said they'd vote for the Dem if Tanc was re-nominated. Last election the Dems ran a "former Republican turned moderate Democrat" soccer mommy and vowed to defeat Tanc because his "xenophobic" platform was "too extreme". They didn't come close.

Maybe so, but his district is overwhelmingly R and he was very well funded.

The one and only reason I'd vote for Tancredo is to keep the majority. He's a loon as far as I'm concerned. He lost me when he said the Pence plan was 'Amnesty', which proved to me that, to him, Mexicans being allowed in the US = Amnesty to him. Which is, frankly, xenophobia.

He's no Buchannan.

Then why does Bay Buchannan run his PAC?

Not that I would for a second doubt your word or assertion, but can you prove that? Can you show me a link or something?

Even IF it's true, Tancredo still has waaaaay more credentials than Buchanan and he's not made the verbal blunders of Buchanan....Look given the current pack of wannabes I'll take this guy hands down for being a real conservative. As I asked before...have you read his book? Very illuminating.

If Joe Liberalman falls for this cr@p, it will confirm my opinion of him formed when he consented to associate his name with Algore in '00.

I was shocked tonight to see ultra-liberal Lawrence O'Donnell, on McLaughlin Group, say you'll know if the democrats have their own corruption problem (well, duh) if Nancy Pelosi dumps Jane Harmon on the Intelligence Committee for impeached judge Alcee Hastings, whom Pelosi herself voted to impeach. In that case, says O'Donnell, the Republicans will have their majority back in 2008. He was NOT amused.

Joe should take his own tea with him, when Pelosi invites him to tea.

Drinking anything she prepares could have unwelcome consequences. I'm betting she really hates his guts because he refused to participate in the Nancy and Harry show.

Rather have Joe in that position that a lot of others I can think of.

Lieberman went on Meet the Press to agree with the Republicans and the military that the military ballots should be counted. The rats went nuts. However, Lieberman sold his soul voting against Clinton's impeachment after speaking against him, and resold his soul during the 2000 campaign.

Will someone please point me to the chapter in the Civics textbook that describes how the Committees are organized when the actual count of Senators is tied; 49-D, 49-R, 2-I? Why should the DemoKratz get control if this is the actual split?

The DemoKratz wrote the rule book. They also included that part about 60 votes being required for a "majority."
