Newly re-elected Sen. Joe Lieberman has been promised by Sen. Harry Reid – who is in line to become the next Senate Majority Leader – that he will support Lieberman’s efforts to become chairman of the powerful Homeland Security Committee.

In a private phone call on Wednesday, Nevada’s Reid told Lieberman that he would recognize Lieberman as the senior Democrat on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which would facilitate Lieberman’s move into the post.

If Lieberman has half a brain, he'll blackmail the D's into giving them everything he wants.

Realistically, he needs to caucus with the D's still, he promised to, and he's too far left on most domestic issues to be a Republican. But since he holds the balance of power in his hands, he can blackmail the D's for just about whatever he wants.

If Lieberman is a true patriot, he'll use his influence to make sure the rest of his chickens#!t friends don't FU the WOT and, thusly, invite a nuke to go off in Boston Harbor or San Diego.

Lieberman's conservativism is highly exaggerated. It boggles my mind how many people around here hate McCain, who's more conservative then Liberman on EVERY SINGLE ISSUE, significantly more conservative on everything but the WOT, which is about a tie, and still like Lieberman.

Lieberman is great on international issues/war issues, and in the past, he's been a little less horrid on issues like school choice and social security. But he's back to being horrible on those again, and he's horrible on every single other issue.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Lieberman's stance on the War, and I think he'd be a good Secretary of Defense, but that certainly doesn't mean I want him anywhere near actually becoming President, or having any kind of say whatsoever on most domestic issues.

Wait until we hear from the Daily Kuz, nutroots who supported their lamented, fallen candidate, Lament.

I am laughing, though.

It will never happen. Joe is a died in the wool Liberal, except for the war!

I lost all respect for him when he turned on a dime to become Al Gore's VP candidate.

Yep but good for us - Leiberman is a dyed in the wool liberal who act liberal if they put him anywhere but defense. Fortunately he gets the need for defense.

LOL! a bribe for a vote.

The stakes are much higher than that. It's more like a bribe for grabbing control of the Senate. I was wondering which chairmanship Lieberman would get.

The Democrat's control of the Senate is so fragile that if one Democratic senator crosses the aisle or dies, their slim victory would evaporate overnight.
