Hotline: Republicans Will Pressure Allen... Soon
Hotline/National Journal ^ | November 8, 2006

Posted on 11/08/2006 4:15:25 PM PST by RWR8189

Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race? [MARC AMBINDER]

Do REPS have no SPINE????????????

You have to ask?

After the last two years of doing so little with their majority position to try to repair 8 years of plunder and pillage done by the Clintons they couldn't convince me they have a spine if I saw them take it out and play with it. I thought Lott was a wuss, but then Frist came along and showed us what a real wuss acts like.

Today I tried to add up the beneficial legislation we got from allegedly controlling both the executive and legislative branches for the last two years. I don't pay nearly as much attention to that kind of thing as I should, and about all I could come up with was the confirmation of two originalist Justices, confirmation of a number of what I hope will prove to be conservative federal judges, IIRC a cut in the death tax but not sure of that, a law to protect the firearms industry from harassing lawsuits, which has already been ruled unconstitutional by a NY judge BTW, the sunsetting of Clinton's assault weapon ban, and a partial birth abortion ban that has also been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge somewhere in the midwest.

As far as I know the PBA ban has not yet saved one full term baby from being stabbed in the head with scissors and then having his or her brain vacuumed out while he or she is in the final moments of entering a cruel world where innocent babies get their brains sucked out and their parents get to celebrate their liberation from the confining bonds of old fashioned concepts such as morality, compassion, and the sanctity of human life.

I'm sure there was more than that, but I can't think of what it might be. A little help from someone who keeps up with that kind of thing would be appreciated just to satisfy my curiosity.

Well that is good news.

There was some chatter about the Military Vote being nixed this election by the Democrats ala 2000--(and 2002-04 also?) when their ballots were declared not valid because of some Liberal shenanigans.

Do they count this time?

All close races should be recounted IMO. And ballots counted from dead Democrats discarded.

you know full well "what gives". the Dems want a fraud mechanism built in.

- motor voter, let's them know who is in the district based on DMV data.
- provisional ballots should be banned - you come to the polls on election day, and you aren't on the rolls, or have no voter ID confirmation, or no ID at all - you don't vote, period.
- tight controls on absentee ballots issued.

it's easy in reality, but you know full well why it doesn't happen. one party doesn't want it, and the other party (even when they have power) doesn't have the b*lls to force the issue.

FNC reporting now - Allen will concede tommorrow. Its over.

A Senate Seat is too important to concede in order to "get it behind him". At the least he needs to fight it to keep Webb tied up for a while. What is WRONG with these people? When will they fight for us?

Progress in political terms is incremental...except when paid for dearly by the murder of babies....

Most military (trigger pullers) voted for Webb. Me and my family and almost everyone I know on base and in base housing as well.

That is interesting news.

I admit I haven't been following this race that closely, but could you tell me why Military Personnel voted for Webb over Allen?

absentee ballots have ALREADY been counted. All of them counted Tuesday night along with the other ballots. They are now counting provisional ballots which are fairly rare (example: 4 for a 8,000 (normal) ballot precinct).

I agree it doesn't make sense to concede too early, but dragging it along makes us look like Gore (ick). i'd say by Friday EOB, he sould make his decision. Does Allen have to pay for a recount?

Do you trust the election officials in a lot of these places? I sure don't.

Good evening.
"There's absolutely no reason to just cave in."

I'm of the opinion that Allen should let this play out for as long as he is able to.

If nothing else, it is what the DemocRATs would have done to us and it would be a good way to start off the resistance to their two years of control of Congress.

It isn't over until the clock runs out or we surrender.

You know, it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult to develop a fool-proof voting process

That's what I have been asking as well. We should never have a voting system that doesn't have a paper trail. My son's friend has even been playing around with programming from afar by sending a signal. I have always told my son this guy is going to become a millionaire or end up in prison. He is one of the first people I know that figured out how to steal a wireless signal from a business and use it with no one the wiser. He is really good at this type of thing and fortunately for our side he is a huge Republican.

He lost fair and square. Time to move on...

How do you know if he lost fair and square, and who are you anyway besides the political mastermind vanity poster who wasted everyone's time (but gave us the laugh of the night) by calling for Joe Lieberman to become Secretary of Defense last night?

No sweat. We're all a little snippy after the past 36 hours, especially those of us on the ground here in Virginia realizing that we've almost certainly just sent Born Idiot to Washington, and sent a damn fine man back home to (hopefully temporary) retirement.

If Allen is conceding, I'm sure it's because his people have crunched the numbers every way they can and they've concluded a recovery is just not possible. You can legitimately criticize the way the Allen campaign was run, in certain areas, but he's no RINO. And he's got enough class to know when he's beaten, if he indeed is beaten. I can't see him going Sore/Loserman if there's no realistic chance of him catching up.

In big cities someone doesn't show up. and they will all be DemocRAT. It even happened in my precinct for a while in the primary until they could get someone there as a Republican and I live in Oklahoma.

In FL in 2000, the DemocRATs were at the precincts hours earlier then when they opened and the Republican would show up.
