The most important thing that Republicans should learn from tonight is that America is a representative democracy.
This does NOT mean that your congress critter shares ALL your beliefs, or that he is a perfect human being, but rather that, in general, he votes the way you want him to.
It's like hiring a lawyer. You may despise his personal life and his principles, but what is important is that he WINS YOUR CASE.
Democraps could care less about the morals of their elected officials as long as they win.
Republicans could learn a lesson here...
"When Americans see Nancy Pelosi as speaker and all those liberals like Barney Frank, Conyers of Michigan, etc. as heads of Congressional committees for the next two years, I'd say election night in 2008 will be a very pleasant experience for the Republican party.
You remind me of Linus telling Charlie browns sister that there really is a great pumpkin. If the republicans dont seperate themselves from the dems and quit following McCainiac/Rove/Bush and the other Rinos then it will be much worse in 08. Conservative values are winning values if they are afraid to act like conservatives then conservatives will see no difference between them and dems.
Simple: Conservatism wins everytime, and the GOP failed to govern as the Conservative Party.
I read ya! What's to learn is why the Pubbies have done so well, considering history, the unpopular war, and all the projects they have abandoned. I'd say the reason is that voters don't trust so much the bankrupt, corrupt opposition coming with no ideas, and only plenty of botched jokes, including one just last night by the self-appointed Queen of Country.
That ended a long time ago. Money is the deciding factor.
"he votes the way you want him to."
Well, no. Thats where the problem began.
More or less what I said. If Republicans understood power politics, we would not now be in a position where the defense of the United States is in jeopardy.
I now have to decide if I want to fight a court battle to take my daughter out of a major Al-qaeda target city.
Thanks to the "values" voters.
The Democrats have run to the right of the Republican candidates in many cases. That is sad.
If the Republicans can learn one thing from tonight, and that thing is to have real conservative candidates who don't come off like they're about to burn down an orphanage win the primaries, we will come roaring back in 2008 as an antidote to the upcoming Democrat mayhem.
I for one am preparing to be entertained the next two years.
Have you ever had a barking dog chase your car, and then you just stop?
The dog freaks out and doesn't know what to do.
That is what is going to happen once Pelosi, et al., get their boxes unpacked in their new offices. All they've done the past six years is complain that everything in this country is screwed up because of Bush.
Now the electorate's going to be looking at them to "do something," and they don't have a clue.
Three words for the Republicans: Grow a pair.
Good question. In retrospect, there should have been a major shift, especially with the endless media hype. It didn't happen.
There is a portion of me that agrees with Neil Boortz. This *might* be a good thing. A re-assessment is in order. Better now than in 2008.
As for me, RINO season opens next year. Don't know about the rest of the folks on this forum, but its time to remember why conservatives overturned near 40 years of liberal domination in Congress (re:1994)--it was because that Congress spoke to to the real Americans, not mealy-mouthed lips service that has been happening.
Don't agree? Look at the shift of demographics in the last 20 years. Folks aren't moving to New York, California (and soon to be) Illinois (illegal aliens excepted). And this is for a good reason.
So basically, you are saying it's registered Republican voters fault, and elected officials are not to blame.
Bush isnt going to be the candidate in 08. So he wont mean a whole lot.
It'll be a whole new ballgame then. I hope the GOP learnt a lesson from this one and start to get back to Ronald Reagans vision of America.
You are forgetting recent history.
Republicans picked up 50+ seats in the house in 1994. That was before blogs, before most people even knew about the Internet.
It was during a time that the media had huge domination of the news.
Yet, Republicans took over the house for the first time in over 40 years because the contract with America stuck with CONSERVATIVE VALUES.
People responded in spite of hugely negative press because they were values they could relate too.
Yes, a lot of the peeples can and are swayed by the MSM. But they just as easily be swayed the other way, IF Republicans go back to their roots and grow spines.
Republicans failed to learn what the Democrats should have learned... hatred of your opponent will only get you 45% of the vote. When Republicans kept saying "oh Speaker Pelosi... the horror", that'll only motivate so many voters.
Republicans should have pushed to make the tax cuts permanents, supported Bush's social security reform, took control of the border. They really failed to make any progress while they had substainial control.
Step 1 -- Children born to illegal aliens would themselves be illegal aliens until proper application and procedures were followed by both the parents and the children for legal residency and then citizenship.
Step 2 -- Islam would be forbidden in this country and all mosques razed. Anyone caught practicing that religion after the fact would be allowed to divest themselves of all assets here in a reasonable amount of time and then be deported.
Step 3 -- The southern border with Mexico would be completely sealed.
Step 4 -- All illegal aliens in the U.S. would be rounded up and deported. Economic recovery would eventually take place after the fact.
Step 5 -- All domestic oil resources everywhere would be developed and utilized to full capacity and new refineries would be built.
Step 6 -- A comprehensive plan would be put in place to improve educatinal output. Teachers that are competent would be retained and rewarded, those otherwise would either shape up or be terminated. Students would meet basic expectations and have higher-level classes if they desired. Those failing to meet standards would be put out of school and made available for the common labor market. Discipline would become much stricter. Parents causing trouble without cause would be publicly whipped.
Step 7 -- Any congressman found to be stealing/misusing public funds would be tried, and if found guilty, executed.
Already having a drink and have been asking myself that same question all day.
The United States Constitution has the words democratic or democracy nowhere written within it.. ON PURPOSE...
Why is that?..
That guy is gonna keep Florida in the Trash pile, mark my words.
Agreed, We also need to admit that we blew it by not running a national campaign.
