When Not Voting Is The Right Thing To Do (Barf Alert)
Worldnetdaily.com ^ | 10/31/2006 | Joseph Farah

Some people get mad at me when I tell them not to vote.

But I believe there is a right time to abstain from casting a ballot – particularly if the only choice is a Democrat or Republican who are indistinguishable on the major issues of the day.

A good example of a race where a protest vote for a third party candidate or a non-vote would be the right thing to do on Election Day is the New Jersey Senate race between incumbent Robert Menendez, the Democrat, and Republican challenger Thomas Kean Jr.

(Column continues below)

Pollsters say the race is too close to call. And I don't really care how it comes out.

Some Republicans will hate me for this. They will point out that control of the U.S. Senate could be at stake in this campaign.

I say, if Republicans need Thomas Kean Jr. to control the Senate, then they really won't have control anyway. Because Kean is a RINO – a Republican in name only, a Republican who is embarrassed about being a Republican, a second-generation country clubber who, if elected, will turn out to be a bigger embarrassment to the GOP than a straight-out loss of the Senate.

No, I would never urge a vote for Menendez. He's part of the corrupt Democratic Party political machine in my birth state. As far as I can tell, there isn't a single issue on which he's right.

But, honestly, Kean is no better. Not at all.

And here's the real trouble with electing a sniveling weasel like Kean. What you get is a back-stabbing RINO who will spend most of his time distancing himself from his Republican colleagues, showing that he is "different," that he is "bi-partisan," a conciliator – and someone with no principles whatsoever other than his own personal empowerment.

We've had Republicans in the Senate like this before. Think Lincoln Chafee.

Even though polls in New Jersey show voters there more concerned about local issues than national issues, Kean is spending most of his time right now running away from President Bush – not on the border, not on profligate spending in Washington, not on the political correctness run amok in the White Hose, but on the war in Iraq, the war against jihadist terrorism, the war that will destroy America and Western civilization if we don't achieve victory. It wasn't Democrat Menendez who called for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's resignation. It was Kean.

Last week, when he heard that Rush Limbaugh had taken on Michael J. Fox for shamelessly politicizing a disease, Kean issued a statement denouncing the talk-show host. He hadn't actually heard Rush's articulate admonishment of Fox and those using him in this campaign. But what Kean read in "press reports" was enough to get him to attack Limbaugh.

"There's no reason for this in our politics, and I don't subscribe to it," he said.

To what does Tom Kean Jr. subscribe? It's a good question. The answer is not much that's good for New Jersey or good for the nation.

If your idea of a good time is electing a spoiled brat rich kid to the U.S. Senate, then, by all means, vote for Tom Kean. Have a ball.

But if your goal in political involvement is to restore freedom in America, to restore moral sanity to our system of governance, to restore constitutional principles to Washington, to restore a reverence for the sanctity of life, to restore respect for America at home and abroad, then I'm afraid to tell you that you have no choice on Election Day in New Jersey. Better luck next time.

Actually, let me backtrack from that statement. You do have a choice. And casting a protest vote or not voting at all in this virtually uncontested Senate race is a very good choice. It's the only choice for those who want to see real competition in elections, who want to see better alternatives in the future.

Vote no on Kean. And feel good about your choice.

I don't believe any of the bunk moderates try to pull to get their candidates selected in the primaries. No one I know has the ability to predict the future, so they have no credibility when they say, "so and so is too conservative and can never win." Maybe the conservative COULD win if he or she received the proper amount of backing from the moderate factions of the party. Unfortunately, no one knows until they try, and the RNC seems to like incumbents, even RINO ones. Personally, I think that's reprehensible. However, once the candidate is selected, he or she is the candidate. At that point, all of the factions need to come together and support the party. Why? Because that's the realistic, pragmatic way of getting what you want (which is what politics is all about really).

Carol Hunstein??? You must live relatively close to me then. I live in Forsyth County, right near where Forsyth, Gwinnett and Fulton meet.

You are the same guy who convinced me to vote for Rionld when I pleged not to. I can't believe what I'm reading from you. Rinold makes Kean look like a boy scout with his global warming treaty.

>> Kean called for Rumsfeld's resignation; he was the one who condemned Rush for calling Michael J. Fox on his enlisting as a victim in a partisan contest. << <<

The same freepers blasting Kean for that are holding their ears and going "lalalalala" when Joe Loserman does it. They say we should vote for Loserman SOLELY because he'll "beat Lamont" and embarrass the MoveOn.org crowd.

If freepers are willing to vote for the likes of Joe "throw out of the overseas milltary vote" Loserman, then they shouldn't have a problem with Kean because he looks like Jesse Helms next to Loserman. At least Kean will oppose illegal aliens, vote for Bush judges and oppose Reid for Majority Leader. Loserman NEVER will.

I am supporting Kean. Indeed, I am supporting EVERY Republican Senate nominee except PROVEN traitors Chafee and Snowe. Hold your nose, vote for Kean, and THEN if he turns out he's as bad as Chafee (unlikely), run someone BETTER against him in the next primary. Kean won the primary this time around fair and square -- 75% of the vote against a more conservative candidate.

The fact so many "conservatives" complain Lindsey Graham is "too liberal" to ever vote for -- YET they support socialist scum like Loserman might explain why the Dems are so close to "Taking back" Congress. They don't call it the stupid party for nothing.

I live in Cobb County.

Isn't it a statewide race? The Georgia state supreme court?

Carol Hunstien is loved by the liberals at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Creative loafing. Unlike Leah Sears, who is at least somewhat moderate, this woman is a pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, anti-photo ID law Decatur democrat. Why is it only people on the left who say she is independent and non-partisan?

Tamzee, you're right...these days, the "Purists" would call Reagan a 'sell-out'

The reason? Well, those to the right of the political spectrum have gotten spoiled by the post-Reagan era. They do not recall the sheer horror of the 1970's and what it was like to live in a nation that was headed down the drain and into the scrap heap of history. They think the 1990's and Clinton were bad...as awful as Clinton was I could suffer 8 years of Clinton and his "third way" nonsense rather than ONE DAY of the Jimmy Carter years and true left wing Democratic ideals. I truly believe that too many of us were either too young or perhaps not even alive during those dark days of the 1970's, and that is starting to hurt this nation. Sadly, I AM old enough to have lived through the 1970's and I have no interest in EVER suffering through that again.

I thought this was supposed to be a CONSERVATIVE forum. So I don't understand why Freepers would vote for LIBERALS, except for power. Don't get me wrong; I do acknowledge there are exceptions in life. So every now and then it might make sense to vote that way for tactical reasons. Still I can't help the nagging feeling like whores, we're giving away our self-respect when we vote for a liberal, even if he is notionally a Republican.

Yeah, the Hunstein race is for Georgia State Supreme Court. Hunstein is a vermin who needs to be sent back to whatever rock she called out from under. She's about as "non-partisan" as I am...LOL

No, we're the Stupid Party when we shun conservative candidates and a small government platform in a vain bid to get the Left to like us. Guess what? They still hate us and they still vote for real liberals - Democrats. We ought to take a lesson from them in pride in our beliefs and in nominating candidates who stand for the things we believe in rather than do a head fake Left to get themselves elected.

>> Who do you think Kean is? A LIBERAL! He's more liberal than the Democrat he's running to replace! <<

On what issue is Kean "more liberal" than communist Roberto Mernendez? You post would make sense if you were comparing Chafee to the mildly pro-life centrist Dem who opposed him last time. As it stands you're just sprewing incoherant crap. While Kean ain't no conservative, he is the right of ULTRA liberal, Mernenedez, or Joe Loserman for that matter. Please compare Kean's views on immigration to the Mernendez and Loserman

If you think any acceptable judicial nomination will make it to the floor with a Donk in control of the committee, you're dreaming. The gang of 7 is bad. A Donk chair would be worse, especially with a deciding seat at stake.

Tom Kean for U.S. Senate
Press Release

For Immediate Release
January 30, 2006

MENENDEZ FAILS FIRST TEST:
Chooses Partisanship Over People

Mountainside, NJ - Evan Kozlow, who serves as Campaign Manager of the Kean for Senate campaign today issued the following statement:

"In his first major test in the United States Senate, Bob Menendez has failed miserably. The question was posed last week, 'If we can't count on our two U.S. Senators to fight for New Jersey and a highly qualified judicial appointment, who can we count on to fight for us?' Clearly, it's not Bob Menendez.

Today, Bob Menendez sent his message loud and clear-- partisanship is more important than the people of New Jersey. Instead of fighting for Judge Alito, he chose to embrace the political bitterness that is dividing America.

For Tom Kean Jr., the choice is clear: Judge Alito is a man of integrity and character who has demonstrated he is eminently qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding nominee who will do what is right for the people of the United States and will make New Jersey proud."

Office of Senator Joe Lieberman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 26, 2006

Lieberman to Vote Against Alito Supreme Court Nomination

Senator cites concerns nominee would diminish individual liberties

WASHINGTON – Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today declared his intention to vote against the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito for the U.S. Supreme Court. Lieberman said he has too many doubts about Alito’s commitment to individual liberties to confirm the nominee for a lifetime appointment. The full statement is below.

Statement of Senator Joe Lieberman on the Supreme Court Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito

Mr. President, I rise to discuss the nomination of Samuel Alito to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

This is the sixth opportunity I have had as a United States Senator to consider a President’s nominee to the High Court. It is surely one of the most awesome and important responsibilities of members of this body because of the uniquely powerful and autonomous role the Supreme Court has in our governmental system and because, once confirmed Supreme Court Justices serve for life with accountability only to the Constitution, as they read it.

Like most of my colleagues I have judged the nominees based on four factors: 1) their intellect and ability; 2) their experience; 3) their character, and; 4) their judicial philosophy.

On the fourth factor, judicial philosophy, I am left with just too many doubts to vote to confirm this nominee for a lifetime of service on the United States Supreme Court...

We've had Republicans in the Senate like this before. Think Lincoln Chafee.

From what I've heard so far, this guy may be even worse than Chafing. Just as liberal, but even more of a jack-@ss.

Not only do I not want to suffer through that again, also, I don't think that America would survive it given our current circumstances. We're fighting to save the country from total evil battling international fronts and half of the country internally... we all have to stick together on the right or America falls :-(
