Mr. Webb -- You must withdraw (Sign Petition)
PetitionOnline.org ^ | 10-27-06

To: Jim Webb Campaign Headquarters

Mr. Webb,

As you well know, the American people want to protect our children against child predators. Recently, Congressman Mark Foley resigned from Congress on September 29, 2006 as allegations surfaced that he had sent sexually explicit instant messages to male former Congressional pages, through AOL Instant Messenger. As a result of the disclosures, the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement opened investigations of the messages to find possible criminal charges. Mark Foley did the right thing and resigned. In February, DOJ launched Project Safe Childhood, an initiative to “combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation crimes against children.” Some of your writings are very disturbing for a candidate hoping to represent the families of Virginians in the U.S. Senate and do not help the cause of combating the sexual exploitation crimes against children. Most Virginians and Americans would find passages such as those below shocking, especially coming from the pen of someone who seeks the privilege of serving in the United States Senate, one of the highest offices in the land:

– Lost Soldiers: “A shirtless man walked toward them along a mud pathway. His muscles were young and hard, but his face was devastated with wrinkles. His eyes were so red that they appeared to be burned by fire. A naked boy ran happily toward him from a little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy’s penis in his mouth.”

Bantam Books, NY, 1st Edition, 2001, (hard cover), page 333. Quote is from para. 10,.Chap. 34.

We therefore call on you to immediately withdraw your candidacy from this race. We the undersigned ask that you put your personal ambitions aside, think of the greater good of the people of the United States and do the right thing — drop out of the U.S. Senate Race rather than persevering in one of self-interest that only serves to hurt the cause of combating the proliferation of sexual exploitation crimes against children.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

The passage quoted from the book does not describe incest or perversion. It describes a custom that, as repugnant as it seems to us, is normal and customary in that part of the world. Webb was reporting what he had seen with his own eyes while in Bangkok. He shouldn't be condemned for describing a custom that is normal in that part of the world.

That's why we should ditch the VISA lottery. We need to screen these weirdos out of the immigrant pool.

If with a knowing wink you believe this will damage the Webb campaign, fine.

If you really believe this is a reflection of Webb's perversion and that it's "for the children" and protection from pedophilia, I believe you are wrong.

The excerpts I have seen don't manifest prurient sexuality, only a desription of the characters and the society which Webb describes.

Suppose I wrote a book and it included the following:

"The teenage girl shyly approached her father as he entered the room. He put out his arms and she hugged him. Instantly he turned her around, drew out the knife from his belt and slit her throat".

Am I some sort of sexual sadist? Child abuser? Have murderous fantasies?

Or did I just describe a frequent occurrence - an "honor killing" in the Arab world?

It may be sophisticated to use this against Webb because it may work.

It is dishonest and defamatory to actually believe the claim against Webb.

To write about something does not mean you condone it. I'll say it again - I write about murder, rape, and tons of other nastiness. It doesn't mean I condone those things, and it doesn't mean that Webb condones pedophilia or any such thing. I point out his service and Navy Cross because THOSE are far better indicators of character than fiction that he might have written.

I do not deserve to be judged, and neither does Webb.

You are not running for office. Webb has asked to be judged...

This is not an issue and does not deserve to be a part of this campaign.

That works for you. Will you now tell others how THEY should use this information?

Let's put all the facts out there and let people make their own choices.

BUMP

Mr. (I use that honorific in respect to his past accomplishments not what he has become) Webb needs the kind of help he cannot get in the US senate.

This nation already experienced 8 lost and harmful years of Clinton and his pack and their lack of a moral compass.

We do not need and cannot afford another Clinton clone serving in the US Senate.

Putting facts out there is fine. Allen is not saying "Webb wrote this....". He is saying: "Webb wrote this and he's a filthy degenerate scumbag." That's wrong.

I don't believe this is a 'normal' behavior in any part of the world. Sorry. That excuse is too convenient.

And if it is 'normal' in Thailand, so what? That country is the center of perversion in the known universe.

--Webb appears to be a victim of influence by backwards cultures where women are sex objects and slaves, which explains his attitude toward women in the military and why he thought it was OK to chase after a woman half his age while married.--

A victim - typical liberal excuse. Webb used the
N-word several times in his books, and also described Vietnamese women as "monkey-faced" (would that be "macaca-faced")?

Is this what some libs privately think of less privileged cultures, while they assault conservatives as "racially insensitive"? Hey, Washington Compost editors, that means you too.

The press release, as provided by the Allen Campaign:

WEBB’S WEIRD WORLD

The Author’s Disturbing Writings Show a Continued Pattern of Demeaning Women

· Some of Webb’s writings are very disturbing for a candidate hoping to represent the families of Virginians in the U.S. Senate.

· Many excellent books about the United States military and wartime service accomplish their purposes, and even win awards, without systematically demeaning women, and without dehumanizing women, men and even children.

· Webb’s novels disturbingly and consistently – indeed, almost uniformly – portray women as servile, subordinate, inept, incompetent, promiscuous, perverted, or some combination of these. In novel after novel, Webb assigns his female characters base, negative characteristics. In thousands of pages of fiction penned by Webb, there are few if any strong, admirable women or positive female role models.

Why does Jim Webb refuse to portray women in a respectful, positive light, whether in his non-fiction concerning their role in the military, or in his provocative novels? How can women trust him to represent their views in the Senate when chauvinistic attitudes and sexually exploitive references run throughout his fiction and non-fiction writings?

· Most Virginians and Americans would find passages such as those below shocking, especially coming from the pen of someone who seeks the privilege of serving in the United States Senate, one of the highest offices in the land:

(ed. I don't see any claims that Webb is a filthy degenerate scumbag. Just that his writings are "shocking" and "disturbing."

And that's different from the phony, manufactured pile of 'macaca' how?

Frankly, I'm glad the gloves are off. The Dems get passes for their bad behavior and ill will for any one of a million reasons. The Repubs get slammed for a word that took days to figure out 'might' offend someone.

Not to mention using the term 'towel-head'. I have yet to see him bashed for that ethnic slur the way Allen has been for the phony insult of 'macaca'.

It's not different. I don't defend or deny the dirty tactics of the dems. Is that where we're at, though? Are we just cutting throats to win now?

No, but why should Webb get a pass? Why shouldn't the electorate know exactly what kind of 'novelist' this guy is? Tom Clancy or Vince Flinn, he ain't.

Taking the high road, doesn't mean taking it on the chin.

I know little about Webb or his platform, but I hate to see people like you manipulated and fooled by deceitful "activists" who want Webb defeated and will stoop to using slimy methods to accomplish that.

Explain that all you want. But Webb does not where it counts, in his book. Besides, I looked this up and, while they have people in Asia kissing the privates of their male children, I saw nothing to indicate them taking the privates into their mouth (as this man does in the excerpt). This makes no difference to the majority who will hear it, either is a sick and detestable practice.

So he saw it in another culture? The Homos and pedophiles have a culture also. Are they legitimate? If someone comes over to the US and goes to San Francisco, they will see some pretty sick puppies. Would it be fair of them to say America IS what they saw a few doing in a perverted town?

What, they don't have perverts in Asia?

We don't need people like you to protect us from ourselves. As far as I'm concerned, the only people who would really be worried about this being "slimy" would be Demo's and Log Cabin Republicans.
