Here is the annual haunted thread. Post your true ghost stories here... This has been somewhat popular ovedr the last three years given the feedback I've received. We just need to keep bumping the thread and keep it active.
Shortly after my grandmother died, we were going through her belongings. Since I'm the family genealogist, when mother pulled granny's briefcase out of the closet she handed it to me. Neither of us opened it because we already knew it just contained some newspaper articles on cousin Jesse James.
A couple months later, I decided it was time to file the Jesse James stuff and toss the briefcase. I opened it and there was an envelope laying face down. As I reached to pick it up, I started laughing. I was laughing so hard, Mr. M heard me in the other room and asked what was so funny. I told him it was granny's letter. I'd never seen it before but somehow I knew what it said. When I turned it over, I saw it was addressed to granny's sister and had a cancelled post mark dated back when I was little. Since the sisters only saw each other once a decade, I have no idea how granny got the letter back or why she kept it all these years. It was just a nothing little short note about me getting into trouble and mother grounding me over a joke grandpa had played.
When granny died, none of the family felt like she'd gone, if you know what I mean. It still seemed like she was around and was waiting for grandpa. A few months later, she and grandpa left together. I think she was just sending me the letter for a good chuckle and to let me know everything would be alright.

Going *bump* in the night again - good stories!
While this isn't exactly a Halloween story, it's a little freaky. Nice, but freaky. And it's another story about my grandmother. Ha, and she used to complain she didn't understand why I did genealogy because all those folks were dead and gone, but then she sure got around after she died.
We have the most amazing, sweet, smart, perfect adopted daughter. All the family, even the once skeptics, think granny came back with her. She wasn't born until after granny died, but when she was little she had granny's little habits and would hum the same made up songs that granny did. Granny's presence was so around her that it was difficult to ever punish her because one just doesn't send their grandmother to the corner! We like to think her guardian angel was new on the job and delivered her to the wrong place so granny had to bring her to us where she belonged.
Halloween bump
I tried spooking some kids like that one Halloween and got a baseball bat upside my head. Not before I made a little girl cry, though. Youth isn't always everything it's cracked up to be. Someone ought to let Senator Kerry know.
I am in big trouble. Only 6 trick or treaters..so far.
It is 8:00 central and I have a bucket full of butterfingers, m&ms and tootsie rolls.
Yes, the first book they wrote was weird New Jersey as the writers are native to NJ, a very interesting read.
I went to a fairly old college [1839] and lived in dorms from that time period/ Always odd sounds and sensations - and not just from roomates suffering from late-night burritos. The music hall had an especially "electric" feel about it, particularly at night and perople would swear to see shadows and things. Most music students would practice after hours but rarely too late - they just couldn't stand it. There was a story, of course, that a balcony had collapsed in 18-whenever, so who knows?
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween
In my early years, my family lived in back of a laundry mat. When the laundry was closed, my father would iron the shirts from 7 PM till midnight. From where he stood, he can see to his left the passage way from the storefront to the back living area. There were two open doorways to the left of the passage way, and the first one was where my brother, my two younger sisters and I slept in (two bunk beds). The second one was my parent's bedroom. When my youngest sister was four years old, I remember her waking up several times crying and shaking in fear. My parents would find out from my sister that she was woken up by an old woman gently stroking her face. My brother, my other sister and I sleeping in the same room, did not see or hear anything. One night my father heard my sister cry and he turned to his left at his ironing station, and there in the passage way stood an old woman. She had just came out of our bedroom. She looked at my father, smiled, turned and walked thru the wall of the passage way. My father was from the old country and he had heard of stories involving spirits. According to what he was told, young children are very sensitive to them. He simply walked over to the spot where the old woman disappeared into the wall, and spoke out in English as clearly as possible, "You are not welcomed here, please do not come back." Ever since he did that, my young sister never had any problems sleeping. Today my young sister who is in her early 40's still remembers the episode.

...If it does, then I have the same problem. Will an exorcist help?...
Nothing works. You can use a .45 caliber but that only slows 'em down.
. . . and just makes them mad!
The Sci-Fi channel has a live Ghost Hunters show on tonight for the next five hours (depending on your time zone).

I thought that was hilarious, too. Apparently ghosts still have schadenfreude.
