Dixie Chicks Flick Is A Good One -- If Free (FR Mentioned)
U.S. News and World Report ^ | 10/25/06 | PaulBedard

Posted on 10/25/2006 8:55:50 PM PDT by conservative in nyc

Talk about cajones: FreeRepublic.com's Kristinn Taylor's got 'em. How so? the conservative website led the outcry against the once popular country band Dixie Chicks when singer Natalie Maines screeched how she hated that President Bush hailed from Texas. Well, last week at the Washington première of the Chicks' decidedly anti-Free Republic documentary, Shut Up and Sing, Taylor showed up. But he wasn't kicked out, reports our Elizabeth Green. The hosts at the lefty Center for American Progress invited him to join the group discussion, where he told the director the movie was a good one.

Why go? "This was a chance," he tells us, "to see it for free."

Thanks, Jim. The price was right and the seating was comfortable. The screening was in one of those stadium style theaters.

O.K. I was missing some components in the Quicktime player. Got it to work once I did an update.

When his fellow bloggers [FR is NOT a blog, maddoggit!] were accused by audience members of bias, he said that “politics has been rough and nasty well before FreeRepublic.com.”

Yeah, and most of the "rough and nasty" stuff originates from the Democrat/left/progressive side of the aisle.

Union goons (1998) beating up Don and Terri Adams...

Gore/Lieberman goons (2000) punching a 12 year old Freeper kid in the gut, at the "Get Out of Cheney's House" election protest...

Goons (2004) tearing a sign out of a little girls hands and ripping it up...

"Peace" goons Gael Murphy and Medea Benjamin (2006) slamming into my camera and me...

Assorted "peace" goons who have entered our rallies and torn signs, grabbed flags, and shoved our people around...

Heck, alll us Freepers did WRT to Ditsy Chicks' mouthing off was to comment here, dump our CDs, call our radio stations, and in some areas peacefully protest outside their concerts.

We don't beat people up. That's a characteristic of their side.

P.S. In case the DC are reading this... FUNM!

And the article on the U.S.News and World Report website links directly to Free Republic, and goes to this thread below... be prepared for more trolls outraged that their beloved twits are dissed so thoroughly.

Not Ready to Make Nice (Dixie Chicks in Australia, STILL Whining About Free Republic)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1715532/posts

Doggone it. I was hoping they could link to My post on the film's ridiculous blog or my thread about Laura Ingraham telling an Oprah producer where he can put his invitation for videotaped comments about the DC's.

"For me, it opens in Quicktime. I don't use the bloatware/adware/spyware Real Player."

Better yet get QuickTime Alternative and you don't even get the annoying update reminders. Better yet it is free.

I like the way the discussion moved. Kristinn's appearance changed the tone and focus of the panel to the new media. He was asked early on what Free Republic was and does. And there was some chuckling when he mentioned he spent every weekend when Clinton was in power at the White House talking to the tourists -- it stopped when they realized he was serious about his activism. There was a lot of interest by the audience about FR and Kristinn did an outstanding job answering and stepping into the lion's den on very short notice.

DUFU is the 'DUmmie FUnnies' thread, written by FReeper PJ-comix. Its the largest ping list on the forum, and quite funny.

IB4P means 'in before the ping', i.e. before he posts the thread to everyone on his list.

Thank you. That's one part I could have explained a bit better. It did sound a bit nutty initially saying, "I go down to the White House and talk to the tourists...."

I should have mentioned the times Freepers confronted Bill Clinton in person in D.C. and around the country.

Thank you for the links, those are terrific posts!

You're right, would have been far more educational for the masses to see your threads than the huge "Operation Ditsy-Twits-Dartboard" thread LOL

Still watching the panel -- libs are so clueless, thinking its gender related -- Kristinn pointed out we are quite comfortable these days with strong women of all political persuasions.

I was a fan of their music, I still think it's great. But I'll boycott it, won't buy it, or even listen to it, not because I'm afraid of appearing supportive, but because I disagree with what they did, when they did it, and their current condescending attitude towards their former fans. And that's what people who disagree with their stand do. They boycott. Along with voting and speaking out, it's a time honored means of individuals making a statement.

You said the family stuff was your favorite part of the film. I've long been an admirer of Natalie's father, Lloyd Maines. I've seen him perform a number of times, always generously traveling and playing small gigs with young musicians. He's also an important record producer here in Texas and has made many contributions to Texas music.

Did Natalie's father appear in the film, and was there any indication of his political leanings?

I got the impression that you left the director somewhat speechless with your quiet charm. Again, your presence gave the panel a whole new direction.

I think it helped them to understand that we are more than just a talk forum -- as an activist you/we have paid our dues.

It seemed to me that the audience was focused on Free Republic as being singularly responsible for the downfall of the DCs. I did not see the movie (and don't plan on going to see it, either), so I don't know how much time was given to blaming "The Free Republic."

It's just like a liberal to blame somebody else, anybody else, for their own troubles.

The biggest barking moonbat on the panel is the the self-described (and excessively mannered) Southern redneck lefty. He absolutely insists that the reaction was NOT fan driven, but engineered by e-vile corporate forces through -- get this -- their control of Waffle House jukeboxes!

I guess he couldn't think of a way to blame it on Haliburton.

Agree. The Ditsy Chicks have not in any way had their careers terminated like Anita's was when she spoke out for the Christian Biblical interpretation of homosexuality.

So here, apparently, is left's new list of horribles:

  1. Haliburton
  2. Big Oil
  3. Walmart
  4. Big Pharmaceuticals
  5. Big [insert any industry excepting those, e.g. trial lawyers, which contribute heavily to Democrats and the Left]
  6. The Corporate Waffle House Jukebox Consortium
