Heartlessness(Patti Davis, who won't take her father's name, chimes in)
Newsweek, MSNBC ^ | October 25, 2006 | Patt Davis

Posted on 10/25/2006 4:29:49 PM PDT by Dane

Oct. 25, 2006 - When I was a kid, I was once being teased relentlessly by a bully at school, and I faked being sick to stay home and avoid him. My parents knew I was faking (the thermometer under hot water trick didn’t work) but they also knew something was wrong. My father came into my room to talk to me, and I willingly confessed. He patiently explained to me that the best way to deal with a bully was to totally ignore him—treat him as if he is invisible. Because all bullies really want is attention.

I got it right back then. I returned to school, ignored the persistent bully, and he backed off. I seem less able to do that now when a bully by the name of Rush Limbaugh has accused Michael J. Fox of faking the symptoms of Parkinson’s (OK, he actually said “acting”) for political purposes. Fox, who could easily be held blameless if he reacted with rage and vitriol, has exhibited grace and dignity, ignoring the blathering accusations of the radio host and expressing appreciation that, just two weeks before the midterm elections, we are discussing stem-cell research. We could all learn from the way the actor has responded to cruelty; certainly I can.

More Rush bashing from the perpetual victim crowd, for Rush and others who dare to point out Michael J. Fox's misleading overtly political commercials.

JMO, Patti, your father would be ashamed of you for you criticizing anothers opinion, and not defending critically the misleading actions and words of Michael J. Fox.

Yes, MSNBC just cannot get enough Rush bashing in -- they are having orgasms over it. Fox is an idiot. His blatant and public political activism opened him up to criticism just like anyone else who puts their head in the political arena....

Patti's father would be sickened. The double standard of the libs continues on, perpetuated by the twisted liberal MSM who thinks they can get away with spinning the truth and reality. Rush proved they could NOT GET AWAY WITH IT.

Good job Rush, and Patti, hang your head.

I think our dear President Reagan would have framed the debate differently. He would have said, "There is a balance to be struck between the rights of those poor individuals who are suffering from diseases like Parkinsons, and the rights of unborn children. Can we truly live with ourselves, call ourselves a moral people if we profit from the destruction of life in this manner? We are better than this; we know that even if we are ill, we are still obliged to make morally correct choices.

"This government has given funding to research a cure for Parkinsons. This work will continue. Adult stem cells in particular have shown much promise. We have found a balance between this noble work and our values as a nation, and that is how it will continue."

Regards, Ivan

All bullies want are compliant victims. I too was given that advice (by my Mother. My parents were divorced, so I had no Father around), and all I got for trying to ignore the bullies, was more bullying.

Many years before Columbine, while sitting in class I would day dream of taking a gun to school and blowing away my tormenters. I shoulda taken a rock to their heads at the very least.

Oh so spewing mass deception for a liberal cause is NOT bullying.

These people are shameless, you don't amend a state Constitution unless you are after MONEY and can't get the legislation passed any other way.

Those who actually heard what Rush said know he didn't accuse Fox of faking anything. He accused him of exploiting his own illness for manipulative political ends. Which is the simple truth.

But those who don't listen to Rush will believe the lie because the big media megaphones are twisting it that way.

Anyone who was listening knows that Rush apologized almost immediately, as soon as someone told him that that's the way Michael Fox is when he's off his meds. It isn't bullying to point out that Fox occasionally goes without meds when he wants people to see what his illness has done to him.

The media is being shown for the hypocrites they are. They are the true bullies, especially when it comes to political thought.

If Patti Davis had said my above, she would have been politiely bullied out of Newsweek's office.

It doesn't work for girls either. You stand up to them and get the crowd on your side.

I can excuse Michael J. Fox for the political ad. He's grasping at the illusion that somebody (Republicans) are standing in the way of a possible cure like a drowning man going for a life preserver. The McCaskill campaign, OTOH, is making crass use of a sick individual in an effort to gain a political edge. Michael J. Fox gets a pass from me.

Why should MJF be "excused". No one put a gun to his head making him to make these misleading and lying ads. He did that of his own free will.

Actually Rosh asked the question was Fox himself the victim of manipulation. Too bad Patti did not inherit critical thinking skills. Sadly only Mike the adopted son apparantly inherited any brains from his Father and it wasn't through the gene pool.

My sister was a suite-mate of Patti for a year in high school; I see she still hasn't changed much.

I hope Ms. Davis was listening to Michael Reagan's shows last night and tonight on XM, although I doubt she was. Mike's handily eviscerating her arguments and those of Mr. Fox on both logical and moral grounds.

Why should MJF be "excused".

Odds are that fetal stem cell research would not provide a cure to Parkinsons. But if you are suffering from Parkinsons and there is 1 chance in a million that it might, then you might be upset at the possibility that the door is closed to further research (more so if you are not pro-Life to begin with). It is the Democrats (McCaskill) who are taking unfair advantage of Fox, his illness & his attitudes about ethical medical research to create a cheap, drive-by hit piece.

Well MJF could take the lead so to speak. He and his wife could produce their own embryos and they could harvest those embryos they produced together for the stem cells. It is perfectly legal.

Why won't MJF take the lead in that respect. I ask you?
