I think our dear President Reagan would have framed the debate differently. He would have said, "There is a balance to be struck between the rights of those poor individuals who are suffering from diseases like Parkinsons, and the rights of unborn children. Can we truly live with ourselves, call ourselves a moral people if we profit from the destruction of life in this manner? We are better than this; we know that even if we are ill, we are still obliged to make morally correct choices.
"This government has given funding to research a cure for Parkinsons. This work will continue. Adult stem cells in particular have shown much promise. We have found a balance between this noble work and our values as a nation, and that is how it will continue."
