With rare exception, TV stories just don't happen - they're planned. So we can be quite sure that sometime in the last 24 hours or so, a producer at 'Today' sent out the word: "find me a Republican voter in a key state who has decided to vote Democrat this year."
NBC folks on the ground in Ohio obliged, dutifully disinterring Mr. John Gaylord to be trotted out on this morning's show. NBC's David Gregory offered this silk-purse-into-sow's-ear intro:
"For embattled Republicans, despite falling gas prices around the country, the economy might prove a tough sell. An important bellwether for this election is right here in Ohio, where a combination of an unpopular war in Iraq, a slow state economy, and scandal have set off alarm bells for Republicans. John Gaylord, a lifelong Republican, runs a bookstore in suburban Columbus. He may switch his vote this year."
Gaylord: "We've had a Republican congress for some time, and of course a Republican in the White House, and I just don't see us going in the right direction."
From Gaylord's statement, Gregory miraculously managed to divine a national trend : "For Republicans, analysts say, the malaise [hey, isn't that a copyrighted Dem term?] is national."
Quick switch to political analyst Stuart Rothenberg: "It is a mood where the public is sour, dissatisfied, wants to a change direction in the country. and just plain angry and ready to start over."
Of course, had that 'Today' producer so ordered, the staff could surely have found a Democrat who had decided to vote Republican. People can argue over the reliability of polls sampling 300 voters. The comment of a single hand-picked individual is less than meaningless - it's misleading.
The Army recently abandoned its advertising slogan "An Army of One." When it comes to forecasting trends, the MSM should likewise give up "a sample of one."
Damn, you beat me to it!
The problem is that the pubbies are going in a Democrat direction. Now why in the world would I want to put the real Democrats in power when at least I have a chance for change with the pubbies?
Seriously? Are we pretty sure it was the same guy? Can you try to pin down where you saw him? If so I'll see if I can track it down and amend story accordingly.
Isn't he supposed to start the sentence with, "I voted for Bush two times but.......
Pray for W and Our Troops
The assistant producer dropped the cue card ;-)
Why would a real Republican say,"a Republican in the WH"?
Only a Dim would say it that way.
Pray for W and Our Troops
CNN is doing hit pieces on the GOP all week called Broken Government. It is truly despicable. Especially after they've been shilling for our enemies by showing our troops getting sniped at.
LOL! Did he read that off a cue card?
GMTA--Should have read further down :)
To divine this guy's ideology, ask him how many copies of Unfit for Command he sold and how he promoted it.
I found it in a small independent bookstore at the shopping center at 23 and 270 near WOrthington Ohio. Two clerks literally walked away from the cash register rather than ring it up. Finally, the manager did the honors.
Exactly.
And the "lifelong Republican" thing is a tip-off too.
They've been doing it for years .. though I do agree .. they are pushing like never before
I know. I keep shouting at the TV, "Oh, if only wishing could make it so."
David Gregory....
This is what I predict will happen. Voters who vote in the mid-term elections are usually the educated voters on our side and are sick and tired of the media and their propaganda campaign. The Foley scandal was a dud (as usual) and the only thing the media can do is try to talk down how great the economy is and for us to focus on the war in Iraq.
The Republicans hold onto the House and Senate, Democrats says it is a conspiracy and nobody on the Democrat side asks any questions on why they lost. After the election, the Dems Presidential candidates go into full campaign mode jockeying for the Left wing kook vote. They will continue to talk down the war in Iraq and say that we need change now at the top to change directions in the war.
If you feel fatigued now, just get ready for 2008. Get your armor on!
Many thanks. I've run a Google search and so far can't find Gaylord - but perhaps it'll turn up later.
An Open Letter To Rush Limbaugh

The letter starts with this.
Dear Rush:
Pardon my French, but youre full of s***!
The Internet has ripped the mask away from the MSM.
Their new tactic is to say that they should absolutely have a right to form the news.
As for David "Hash" Gregory, I wouldn't believe him if he told me my own name. I hope that the first thing President Bush does as a private citizen is walk up to David Gregory and kick his pansy a@@. It is almost comical to watch this little weasel try to take on the President or Tony Snow. They get him every time!
