Michael J. Fox is wrong: Jim Talent supports stem cell research
Red State ^ | 10-23-06

Adult stem cell research, that is. I know, but watching Michael J. Fox's near-slanderous attack on Senator Jim Talent, you'd have no idea that when Fox says that Talent opposes research into "stem cells," he means "embryonic stem cells." And it's because Fox, tragically afflicted Parkinson's Disease, needs a cure. But Fox doesn't let on that, yes, even adult stem cells have yielded treatment for Parkinson's.

Read the testimony of Dr. Dennis Turner, who suffered extreme shaking from 1991-1999 until adult stem cell therapy, conducted by Dr. Michel F. Levesque, helped give him four virtually pain-free years from treatment. Or the research into five Parkinson's patients who demonstrated a 61% increase in physical coordination and lessening of symptoms.

So yes, Mr. Fox, Senator Talent does support stem cells. He supports adult stem cells, he supports research that has yielded positive treatments for Parkinson's patients, and he did it all without requiring the federally-subsidized slaughter of embryoes. Insert the word "embryonic" somewhere into your vitriolic attack against the senator in a last-minute push for Claire McCaskill, and maybe then you can air that commercial. Alas, but perhaps that truthful commercial would be so much less effective.

We do not support the use of embryos for stem cell research.

God bless you both.

Anyone who would demand another human being die for their good is by that very fact not worth dying for.

Maybe if they took all the money McCaskill is using to run for election, they could spend it to fund embryonic stem cell research, and find a cure.

McCaskill's disgusting use of important embryonic stem cell research money for her own partisan political gain should disqualify her from office. How dare she condemn so many people to death simply so she can win a seat in the Senate?

I have heard some researchers suggest we are perhaps ten years away from positive results

How? Therapeutic cloning? Cloning is currently still a dirty word. I've no doubt that will change in the future if the utilitarians get there way. But how does one overcome the immunological response if not by cloning?

What MJF and the late Christopher Reeve are (or were)saying is that their lives are more important than the lives that embryonic research would take. I truly do feel badly for anyone with Parkinson's or paralysis, but every life is precious, and theirs isn't any more important than those little babies. What if they said that taking the life of a 6 month baby could help find a cure for these diseases, would that be OK? I'm sure that those afflicted would say, sure, that's easy for you to say, but even if my children were afflicted, I would say the same thing.

"That's the most despicable lie (of many) from contemporary Democrats: The deliberate conflating of embryonic stem cells with adult stem cells in campaign ads that say "Republican X opposes stem cell research."

Not only that, but Bush vetoed and Talent agreed, that there should be no federal money used for research (more spinning on the rats side)

embryonic stem cells have produced results - the growth of uncontrollable tumors. Apparently there is not a switch "off" for embroyonic stem cells as there is such a switch in adult stem cells. MJF would like to have tumors added to his plight? He is either stupid or a liar with this ad.

The ad is false. It should not be airing. However, Talent is a Republican, and has learned that he dare not even think of asking stations to take the ad off the air for fear of being called names.

Talent is such a good little Republican unable to even consider a strategy for defending himself. Just lets the Left keep spinning their lies and distortions, believing in the end, people will vote for him because he's a nice guy.

I guess Michael J. Fox advocates giving people cancer by injecting their brains with embryonic stemcells.

That's what happens.

A while back MJ Fox was accused of not taking his medication before (I think) congressional testimony so that his tremors would be worse to help get more funding. I saw him recently on a scrubs epidsode and inside the actor's studio where he had tremors but not as bad as that commercial. I think Talent should find out if MJFox took his meds before filiming that commercial. If not, it would show MJFox and McDemocrat as manipulators.

While Michael is still alive and conscious maybe he'd like to volunteer for all sorts of "experiments" to be performed on his body ~ just to help others you know.

Agreed, can we stick to the real important issues please instead of wasteing time arguing about whether embryos should be used for research or just tossed out in the garbage.

I think if someone is in favor of embryonic stem cell research then they should have the gonads to name the baby that shouldn't be born so that they can get back to their equestrian hobby.

As always, it's not the candidate or the party defending themselves, but us. That the Stupid Party can't stand up for their positions is well, stupid. And immensely infuriating.
