Jane Wyatt, the lovely, serene actress who for six years on "Father Knows Best" was one of TV's favorite moms, has died, said her publicist. She was 96.
Wyatt died Friday in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Bel-Air, according to publicist Meg McDonald. Her death also was confirmed by Bernard Johnson of the funeral home Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors.

God rest her soul.
IMHO a GREAT series. I guess I am a chauvanist born in a chauvanistic era. As a father of 6 I "KNOW" from experience despite many, many mistakes, I have always known best!
Especially when I had my wife's approval!

Oh, you're taking me back to the good old days of TV. Pure, clean entertainment.
I loved "My Little Margie" and "Our Miss Brooks".
I'm surprised that Jane was 96. My Mom is 88 and I would have figured them to be the same age.

She was spectacular in "Lost Horizon".
I'll have to pull that one out and have a drink while I watch it in her honor.

Yes, she was a classy lady, but was far left even back then I guess:
Her film career suffered because of her outspoken opposition to Senator Joseph McCarthy,....

Sea Hunt. Lloyd Bridges. Loved that show. IIRC it was on fairly early on Saturday nights. I also remember watching a show called 'Adventures in Paradise' starring Gardner McKay, which I believe was also on Saturday nights. I am friggin' old
Do you remember "Hawaiian Eye", "Surfside 6", and "77 Sunset Strip"? I do.

Thanks. Don't know how I missed that before.

I'm with you about the fifties sit-coms. They were so much funnier than the current shows, without using sex or politics as the source of the comedy. That's why I can not even sit through one of them now. I record "I Love Lucy" every day on TVLand. No matter how many times I have seen some of the episodes, I find myself laughing out loud at the true comedy of that show and being amazed all over again at the sheer talent and brilliance of Lucille Ball.
What a remarkable life and career Jane Wyatt had! She was a beautiful and great lady. May she rest in peace and always be remembered for the positive influence she had on my life and the lives of many others of my generation.

I loved Father Knows Best better than any TV program ever. I thought they were the ideal family. Mom. Dad. All the kids. Each was super in his or her own way. They had interesting and memorable personalities. And every episode has a moral lesson. The only thing that comes close is the Andy Griffith Show.

Wow it's hard to believe that "Father Knows Best" was on the air some 50 years ago. I remember watching the reruns as a kid in the 70's and I think NBC even had a reunion movie in the late 70's.
RIP Jane Wyatt.

They were funny, and they didn't bank on insults for a laugh.
It wasn't until "All in the Family," that the insults became acceptable. Now, our kids think it's normal to slam others for a laugh.

BTW, one of the most calssic SNL satires was when Ricky Nelson(also now deceased, RIP) hosted SNL in the 70's and they had Rick Nelson stuck in the Twilight Zone and every house he went to was another 50's sitcom other than Ozzie and Harriet. He made sojourns through "Leave it to Beaver", "Father Knows Best", and "I Love Lucy" and Bill Murray was brilliant with his Eddie Haskell impression.

I saw her at a Star Trek convention in Manhattan once. She was a bit hit. (The con sucked overall, but it was a Creation Con so that should've been expected.)

And the Warner Bros. westerns: "Cheyenne", "Maverick", "Lawman" (I had such a crush on the wonderful John Russell), "Sugarfoot", "Colt .45".
We only had three or four channels on TV, but there was always something good on. Now we have hundreds of cable channels, and 99% of the time, all that's on is trash. We pretty much stick to HGTV and the Food Channel, and of course, Brit's show on Fox News.

Do you remember "Hawaiian Eye", "Surfside 6", and "77 Sunset Strip"?Yes, but only a little. My TV heyday was more in the early '60s. My favorite shows were 'Man From Uncle', 'Outer Limits', 'Mannix', 'Star Trek', 'Time Tunnel', 'Addams Family', 'Munsters', 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', 'Lost in Space', 'McHale's Navy', Gilligan's Island', 'F Troop', 'Lassie', etc., etc.
