I live in Hollywood Hills. I remember Northridge as bad indeed .. but I had more house damage from the Whittier Quake.
I think it also matters about depth and whether the break is side to side, up and down, scraping etcetera.

Reported as 6.3 in West Hawaii island. I was on the road so didn't feel much but noticed showers of leaves and twigs falling from the trees. Arriving home again all the neighbors were milling about outside, talking about the shakeup. No word yet of damage on the Kona side.

"Thats a pretty big one huh? Ive never felt one. Hope no one got hurt.Coastal Alaska has 6.- magnitude quakes fairly regularly, mostly in the outlying areas. But occasionally, one is felt in a populated area. Valdez experienced at least one while I was there, and more likely two. The difference between the two was considerable. One was a sharp, LOUD jolt that knocked us off our feet, spilled dishes out of the cupboards, rattled EVERYTHING, and set trees and power poles to swaying. The second was a more rolling, "wave" type, but trees were swaying, wooden buildings were moving and creaking, water in fish tanks sloshed out, and power lines jumped wildly.
No one was hurt in either shake, and they were quite the adventure. And they can sure get your adrenalin pumping!

Um... that's a really, really weird waveform for a regular earthquake.

Ive read the 9-11 threads several times, it still amazes me
each time. FReepers are in every city, and most countries.

Oh, I used to live in Waikoloa. Not far from where the quake happened. Most of the activity when I lived there was because of Kilauea in Hilo.
