Pelosi: ‘Democrats Have Long Fought for Middle-Income Tax Cuts’
House Democratic Leader ^

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 11, 2006

CONTACT: Brendan Daly/Jennifer Crider 202-226-7616 Pelosi: ‘Democrats Have Long Fought for Middle-Income Tax Cuts’

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush’s comments on Leader Pelosi during his press conference at the White House:

“President Bush and his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress can’t seem to grasp that Democrats have long fought for middle-income tax cuts. This is in stark contrast to the Republican tax breaks for the super rich that have led to a budget that is grossly out of balance and a national debt that is morally indefensible.

“Democrats propose a New Direction to provide real tax help to hard-pressed families, which will inject demand into our economy, spur economic growth that will produce jobs, and reduce the deficit, and we will do it in a fiscally responsible way.”

Right...

Someone needs to ask Ms P... Which tax breaks she voted for and what tax reform legislation she sponsored.... I think you will get a non-answer.

Meanwhile.. the Liberals are hiding their money in foreign countries to avoid Estate taxes.. and diddling with tax laws to profit on land deals...

Exactly. I believe it was in 2000 when the Bush Campaign pointed out that Algore's definition of "upper income" would catch a Chicago family in which the dad is a police officer and the mom is a public school teacher.

For the life of me, I will never understand giving people a tax refund, who never paid into the system in the first place.

Thinly vieled redistribution of wealth (Socialism).

I am holding my breath in anticipation of the media asking her that.

Have they ever voted for any kind of tax cut?

They support middle class tax cuts in the same way that Bill Clinton did: To pay lip service to them but to never, ever actually try them.

A totally flat tax with no earned income credit, no exemptions, and no deductions would resolve this issue immediately. I propose 10% to all income.

They've voted for tax cuts for those that don't pay taxes. Consistently.

Is this coming from the party that argued that an increase in program spending was a cut in spending? So a decrease in taxes would mean.........

Maybe she means if you make less money you pay less taxes. I lost my job when Carter was president. I had little income so I paid little in taxes. I think the Liberal Demo-trash have that in mind. When we're all making less we will pay less in taxes. That is, until they increase tax rates we currently have under Bush.

Suuuuure you did. And then when rebates came to us thanks to Bush, you and your spend-thrift buddies DEMANDED that the "poor" get a rebate on taxes they had never paid to begin with.

As as far as "middle-income" -- that's relative - middle income in Ohio is not the same as middle income in California, etc. I work in Nancy's District and believe me - my paycheck would buy a lot more house in suburban Columbus than it does in suburban San Francisco.

The only reason people like Pelosi lie like this is because it works.

People will continue to vote for this kind of representative as long as they choose to faithfully believe in them rather than observe and take note of their actions.

Ha! I clearly remember the outrage of Pelosi, et al, when Billy Clinton promised not to raise taxes on the middle class, then raised them, and then admitted that he raised them too much. Yes, the stern wagging of the finger, the outrage, the moral indignation - oh wait, that never happened did it! I have a sneaky feeling that Pelosi voted for those tax hikes.
