Columbia Capitol Counter-Camp October

Columbia Capitol Counter-Camp

Wed. Oct. 4th was a beautiful day in Columbia, SC. The first Wed of the month was here

and I was glad that some freepers would be joining in the effort to counter the negative

statements made by the usual assembly of moonbats that disgrace the state capital on

Wednesdays. I was first on the scene and took up position with signs as the beeps to my

“Honk to Defeat Jihad” sign was raised alongside Old Glory. One obviously morally

bankrupt individual drove by hands up in confusion. I guess why we would want to

defeat people who want us dead has escaped him. One moonbat with no sign showed up

and looked a bit perturbed that I had beaten him to the post. His counterpart, a “Women

in Black” rep showed up, kerchief wrapped about her neck curiously similar to the

Palestinian shemach. She sided up to me, feigned friendliness. “Hello, how are you?”

“Fine”

Then the real mission of her engaging me kicked in. “could you please move to the side?”

I took one step to my left

“No, no you need to move all the way past the last post. This is our sidewalk”

“No”

“But this is our sidewalk”

“It’s my sidewalk too. I live in Columbia and pay taxes here and if I want to stand on the sidewalk, which is what I will do.”

“But we have a permit”

“I don’t need a permit. The law states only groups larger than 10 need a permit”

“Well you have to be walking if you have a sign”

“Well you have to be SILENT if it is a silent vigil”

“I haven’t joined the vigil yet”

“You people talk every week- I see you even laughing”

At that point she realized she was getting no where with me. “Well we have a permit and I will take it to the police.”

“Okay” She left then and was very miffed that she couldn’t intimidate me into moving so they could be masters of the sidewalk.

During this exchange, there were a total of 3 people who had gathered with one sign

between the three of them. They sure needed the entire area for that. I always find it

amusing that these people with be very quick to defend a slab of sidewalk but balk at

defending their nation. I wonder if they realized that the sidewalk is IN the nation they do

not want to defend. Well why am I surprised? I mean they use the first amendment which

was gained by means of war to protest war.

First to arrive and join me was the freeper Euclid. I was glad to seem him again. He took

up the “United We Win” sign. Nettie joined us next. She happened upon our group last

month and joined us. She is enthusiastic and we are glad to know that not all USC

students are liberal moonbats.

A man who has lost his way to the local barber for about 20 years came up to Euclid

with a flyer decrying the “war profiteers”. Euclid brushed him off quickly. I asked to see

the paper. He seemed pleased to have another person to annoy.

“Don’t you have a problem with contractors making loads of money bringing troops supplies and our troops are left waiting for ammunition that doesn’t get there?

“First, how does your dislike of contractors allow for throwing out the entire mission? Do you not agree that it is a dangerous mission for contractors? Oh course they are going to charge high prices.”

“Sure it’s dangerous, why don’t soldiers do it instead of high paid contractors?”

“I’ll buy that, but you don’t even want soldiers doing the job, since you are protesting the mission.”

“They are out there with no ammo.”

“I know and daily meeting soldiers coming home from Iraq. I never heard of them hung out waiting for ammo that doesn’t come. Have you been there? Do you know anyone who has?”

“No”

“Then I guess you have no idea what you are talking about.” At that point he retreated.

Loose Cannon came up the hill. He had some nice protest warrior posters. Ironically, the

same photo on one of his posters is on the website for the Women in Black. His “Except

for Ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism & Communism, War Never Solved Anything” sign

is a fav of mine. I even have the shirt. Some people don’t read quickly though and can

become perplexed. I guess that is why Protest Warriors can join the nutcase protests for a

while with these signs.

One of the moonbats asked several times if we had seen a “ Mr. Smith” I told her I

thought he had gone to Washington. Not sure if it clicked for her, because she asked

several times again.

At one point a pretty young women joined us and asked if she could “stand with us.”

(Prolific words, indeed.) I asked if she had heard about us on the internet. Apparently she

had just passed by and been offended by the moonbats. When she saw our signs, she

wanted to join us, so she parked and walked over to join us. Her fiancé had just deployed

and she was hurt by such lack of support for him. I am glad to say she plans to join us

again.

A black couple was nearby waiting to cross the street. He questioned if I knew what jihad

was. I discussed the “sixth pillar of Islam” and the jihad that stems from it. He was a

Muslim and argued the old Jihad means an inner struggle. I acknowledged that in some

instances that is true; however there are far too many Muslims who accept intifada, and

the jihad of the sixth pillar. I told him I don’t negotiate with people who want me dead. I

told him that Christ never told people to behead people who did not except him. He then

decided to argue that Jesus is not God since Jesus never told anyone to pray to him. He

implied that Christians believed in three gods unlike Islam. At that point, the light

changed and I told him I wasn’t going to argue my faith with him. I acknowledged his

right to his faith; Muslims should do the same for Christians.

The funniest point of the day was when upon leaving, an old goober moonbat, (The guy

who likes to wear an Islamic prayer rug occasionally) stood beside me while about to

cross the street. In his hand was a dog eared book he had been reading. “A Guide to Alien

Spacecraft”!!!!!!!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! That explained volumes.

Official group assembly will again be the first Wed. of the month 5-6. Columbia, SC at

the intersection of Gervais and Main Streets. Some of us will continue each Wed. All

freepers and supporters welcome.

SOOO I have learned a lesson. Never loose your Free Republic password!! My regular

computer has been down. I needed my password to get on using my daughter’s computer.

I just got my password !!!! I’m BAAAACK!!

TODAY Oct. 12, I went downtown again. Since it was not the first Wed. of the month. I

did not expect many others to be there. I was a bit late and was immediately set upon by

a dazed glassy eyed old hippy woman. “Hello, I need to ask you to step to the side.”

Oh God here we go again, I thought. “No”

“No really, you have to move”

“No I don’t – get lost.”

“Puuuulease pretty please, for me? I’m a nice person!”

Is she serious? Later thinking about this encounter, I realized it was a great example of

liberal thinking. Do what I want because I ask you and I’m nice Ask Korea not to develop

nuclear weapons because we are nice and give you money. HAAA! We see how well that

worked. She then continually asked me if my husband was in Iraq. I said he had returned.

“Oh THAT’s Good”

I said he was requesting another tour.

“Oh THAT’s Bad”

“What are you four years old?”

“”Well I’m talking with someone with no common sense.( I have a 140 IQ) You like Bush and he’s a liar”

“Really, what did he lie about?’

“Everything”

“Right-that’s not childish huh?”

“I’m so sorry your husband has to go to Iraq.”

“Don’t you pity me! I am damned proud of what my husband does. I don’t want or need pity from the likes of you. You nuts think we can hold hands sing kumbayah and there will be peace.”

“We can!!!”

“Oh Geez, Now I see why your group was voted the best place in Columbia to get high.”

“Isn’t that great??”

“Figures”

“If you are so for the war why don’t YOU go fight?”

If you think ONLY people who are in the military have a right to comment about this, I guess you need to shut up right now. And since the vast majority of the troops support the mission, I guess the issue is decided.”

“I’m in a group called military family members speak out!”

“But you aren’t a military family member. As a matter of fact NONE of the members of your group that protested Fort Jackson are military family members.”

“At that the nutcases in the crowd started shouting to me Wade! Wade is a military family member!”

(Wade is a disgruntled Vietnam vet) “Wade is NOT a military family member. To be a military family member you have to have someone on ACTIVE duty. Your group’s name is just another lie you people tell.”

She finally retreated then a tie dye clad “natural” looking woman came over and said, “I grant you peace. I am a military family member my father was in World War II and I am glad he didn’t die!”

“UMMMMM What part of ACTIVE DUTY do you people not understand?”

Then as she bakced up she had this “Children of the Corn” sort of look on her face as though she were telling me of the coming apocalypse. “ You will all loose the election, the end is here for Bush and your people”

“Whatever, go smoke some more pot.”

A while later, the young women that joined us last week showed up. She was dressed in military forest Battle dress uniform slacks and an Army T-shirt with “My Man went to Iraq so YOUR man doesn’t have to get drafted.” She is a great addition to the counter camp and I am glad she is joining us! Hopefully MORE of you will join us!! EMAIL me!

The evening ended with a long discussion with a tourist from Maryland. “He was a conservative from a liberal state. He was glad to see us there and was worried about what might happen if the Republicans lost the house and put (God help us) Nancy Pelosi (aka-commie traitor female dog) THIRD in line to run the nation. ARGHHHH!! EVERYONE OF YOU-GET OUT AND VOTE!!!! DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!! See you in November!!!! Flib

I am working on putting the signs on something sturdier and hope to have a couple more Protest Warrior signs printed out. Maybe I will show up in black from behind the idiots and "join" them for a while.

I wouldn't mind being known as Euclid, the father of geometry, except for being hated by generations of high school students. But I am ElCid1970, graduate of The Citadel that year. The Zorrolike mystery must continue for now......

Anyway, how do four of us FReepers hold eleven moonbats at bay? Flib, you bring out the real twilight moonbeamers! "I grant you peace!" says one. The soft core fascism: "I am asking you to move!" What a hoot! Not a socialist, anarchist, or theoretical Marxist in the lot, prepared to advance the struggle of the urban proletariat for control of the means of production. No waved dogeared copies of Lenin's "Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism". Not even a Che Guevara T-shirt. Disappointing.

Yeah, I studied at USC's Department of Government and International Studies. They nearly succeeded.

Looking forward to the next First Wednesday. Best to your brave husband. If so privileged I will join him in Iraq.

;^)

OOps! Sorry on the name. I thought it looked funny at the time. Now I know why. Citadel, huh? Impressive. A couple years ago I went to Charleston to hear the president speak. Students from the Citadel were helping out with the crowd. I have never seen nicer, more polite, and well mannered young men. I decided that day that I wanted my young son to join their ranks. He's only in third grade now, so I think I have time to work on that.

I grant you peace.

I grant you moon-battery!

What a great action and report! As I was working to get the 2nd half of mine done, I kept glancing at the Columbia FReep AAR link. Finally I get to read it. Classic!

What a great move finding out the permit situation and taking control! "Go smoke some more pot!" hahahaha!

Hey, that could be a Protest Warrior sign!

Stay off drugs
or you'll
look like this!

Hey, remember the Yellow T-Shirt crowd coming up the sidewalk from Assembly St? Who were they, anyway? What did you say that made them turn back?

The Citadel accepts provisional appointments regardless of age.

Do you mean the citadel accepts boys for a reservation for when they are college age, or they actually "instruct"boys at age 8?

I remember those yellow shirted people! A group of them drove by beeping and waving at us in support. Then we saw a big group of them walking toward us. I think they saw the "War Never Solved Anything" part of the protest warrior sign and missed the "Besides Fascism,etc... part. They quickly turned and went the other way. All I did was call out to them. "Hey, wait! Come join us" I think they were confused by it.

I misspoke. Provisional appointments are for children of Citadel alumni, and can be made from infancy to age 12. If all admission requirements are met, and the parents apply to The Citadel by January 25th of their child's senior year, then a place in the Corps of Cadets is guaranteed (should've read my Alumni News first).

But there's no reason any parent can't encourage their child to excel from an early age, and thus become competitive for admission.

They were protesting the court case to relocate the kid that was on the anti-depressant when he killed his family to an adult prison. I saw them on the news that night.
