Rush reports that a Cessna has been reported as crashing into (at least one) apartment complex in NYC Mannhattan's upper east side - on East 71st Street.
Agreed. That's a different matter altogether.
I know...
I just looked at an article that was posted about Lidle and his plane from a while back.
I also talked to my son a second ago....he is a flight instructor who has his own plane...he doesn't have a Cirrus like this one was...but he has flown one...and he said that Lidle probably had way too few flight hours to be flying in that area...(not being critical, he said it easy to get caught in areas like that).
I did hear on MSNBC that he was not in contact with any air traffic controller, and all planes are supposed to fly OVER all buildings...so there might have been some "novice" mistakes...very sad.
what's with all the venom in this thread? Sheesh people
Hadn't heard that. Who reported it?
Yes, then one need only split the '90' down the middle & rotate it counter-clockwise around the central axis and...
there you have it...
'09/11/01'...no mirrors necessary...
Exact same thing happened with Payne Stewart. For several hours all we knew there was a plane off course that nobody could get in contact with, then we found out that Payne was on board.
Agree with you.......but.......NYers are anxious, to say the least. When you take the subways underground, the trains leading into Penn Station and Grand Central Station, have experienced 9/11 in your own backyard, and then a year later, a major blackout on the East Coast, which was reminiscent of 9/11, the following year a major transit strike, which again, had folks walking for hours over all of the Manhattan Bridges, the same visual of 9/11, add to this that there hasn't been a single plane crash into a building since somewhere around 1940ish (correct me if I am wrong).......add in the month of Ramadan, the constant jihadist websites calling for the destruction of the Great Satan, with specific references to NYC, DC, it kinda makes ya a little anxious, don't ya think?
How horrible.
How horrible.
The plane was likely flying over the East River before it veered into the building. The building is very close to the river.
LOL. ..
(. . . just hearing the sad news as to pilot. . .and more victims. . .) No doubt could have been far more victims here. . .
His bio reads that he had a wife (married in 1997) and a son born in 2000. Also said he was a teammate of Jason Giambi in HS.
Tried to download the audio from the WFAN website, I think they are in the process of pulling that interview off. It was one of the oddest sports interviews I have ever heard, very heated.
WCBS-TV a few minutes ago.
His point is one made either from ignorance or from a callous attempt to make noise about something he knowingly misrepresents. Flight plans are meaningless in this case. Would this guy have been knowingly denied "permission" to fly down the east river corridor? no. This attack on GA is classic scapegoating and I would hope that those on this forum would appreciate that. If they tell me that I can't fly in the VFR exclusions (the correct terminology, btw) around NYC, then on what principled grounds can "they" tell you not to drive an SUV through the Holland tunnel? Oh, heck. It's for the children.
p.s. not you :)
Now that's just creepy. What did they do, bounce off the darn building?
The airports have been at condition orange for several weeks now.
ESPN has best coverage of all of this right now.
