Dietl has a point. It is a little silly for that area to be unrestricted space. Its just the wrong climate for that. Safety suggests a change. His point is one made either from ignorance or from a callous attempt to make noise about something he knowingly misrepresents. Flight plans are meaningless in this case. Would this guy have been knowingly denied "permission" to fly down the east river corridor? no. This attack on GA is classic scapegoating and I would hope that those on this forum would appreciate that. If they tell me that I can't fly in the VFR exclusions (the correct terminology, btw) around NYC, then on what principled grounds can "they" tell you not to drive an SUV through the Holland tunnel? Oh, heck. It's for the children.

As usual, you GA pilots are over-sensitive to critique. I know, I know, most of you are fine pilots. Okay? But the fact remains, that there is a segment of GA that is randomly STUPID, hurting things for the rest of you.
