A group of House Republicans called Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the improper handling of classified documents by President Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger. Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000.

The Sandy Burglar scandal has not gotten nearly enough press. To quote a particularly witty columnist, we know more about what Bill Clinton pulled out of his pants than what Sandy Burger stuffed into his.

If they would just play hardball. The material available to them is unbelievable. I just think Frist is a limp noodle.

The Republican's are POed at the way the Foley BS was played by the MSM and Rats and they are going to get revenge.

So why is it that when the Rats cry "j'accuse!" the Republicans fall over themselves to conduct an investigation, this time of Foleygate just in time for the November election -- and this in a land where it can take months to decide the seating arrangement for a committee? The Republicans will be giving the Democrats talking points for the last two weeks of October, while the Democrats will delay any investigation of Burglargate until the year 2275.

Isn't this a little late. The man should have been sent to jail years ago. I am afraid this story will not have the impact it should because it is so old.

Q"uestion: I know presidential pardons can curtail firther punishment (jail time, execution, etc.), but can it erase a felony record?"

Not to my knowledge.

When a plea deal of this sort is done there are usually a couple factors and one is that they will cooperate with any investigation and they will not ever talk about the contents of the documents. Berger opened his trap when he started running the muck about how Clinton handled NK better than President Bush. It's really a technicality and politics but I think the Republicans aren't going to let a convicted classified document thief get by with inserting himself in the Bush Bashing Fest anymore.
