~ College Football ~
Match Of The Week Preview: (By MikeFromOhio) Week Six brought the first major upset of the year down on the plains in Auburn. Arkansas went in and physically dominated Auburn for 4 quarters en route to a shocking 27-10 victory over the Tigers. Florida followed that up by winning rather easily against LSU at the Swamp. The Buckeyes and Michigan held serve, while West Virginia had another easy game. USC was pushed again by the Huskies of Washington. This week features what was looking to be the game of the year in the SEC only last Friday night. Florida leaves the friendly confines of the Swamp to visit Auburn. Saturday, October 14th, 2006 7:45 PM on ESPN
at
(2) Florida at (11) Auburn (-1.5)
Generally the home team is given a 3 to 3.5 point advantage when the lines are put out. Given that Auburn is only favored by 1.5 points (meaning to cover the spread, they need to win by 2 points), the odds makers think that Florida is pretty even with Auburn. Seeing as Auburn was absolutely dominated last Saturday by Arkansas, Id say that is a pretty good bet. One development to be aware of college football fans, Auburn was missing one of their better linebackers for the Arkansas game. His return will allow Auburn to put their best defensive lineup in the game against Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. The key is the continued good play of the Florida quarterbacks. If they continue to play mostly error free, they will win easily. Being that this game is at night, at Auburn with Auburns season hanging in the balance expect the Tigers to play hard. Can Florida stand up to being #2 in the nation? We will see. Whats for sure is that this is a classic trap game for Florida.
Florida 21 Auburn 19
**More Random Observations** (By CSC Folks)
*Scenario: If USC, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Florida all finish undefeated, who will be left out in the cold? Remember, the BCS rankings are compiled using the Harris Poll as well as the Coaches Poll, but not to the AP Poll. As it remains right now, USC and OSU would battle for the NC. *A football player was ejected and escorted from the stadium this past weekend. What was the penalty? Excessive celebrating! Excessive would be--Miami's ridiculous behavior at Louisville before their game earlier this season. Excessive would be--staking your school flag in the middle of the field of your opponents home field. That's excessive kids!

| ~ NASCAR ~ The Cup Chase continues! Hello Lowe's Motor Speedway! (That's in Charlotte for all you non-Nascar fans!) Click here to get all your pre-race information! Or do what we do--->Check in with the NASCAR crew here at FR! By the way, was Vickers to blame for Jimmie Johnson's loss this past weekend? |
| ~ Sports Musings ~ Is there bias against the SEC in college football? Many SEC fans believe so and continue to complain when they feel slighted by ABC or ESPN's Gameday. We don't believe it's bias, but money that rules these things. After all, the SEC has many of their games highlighted and showcased on CBS because of contractual agreements. ABC is currently running the BCS and thus, highlight the games for which they have contractual agreements. Is this fair? Probably not, but the SEC officials should've thought about that when agreeing to the BCS. For those keeping score at home and currently awake, Americans can play soccer overseas and not get laughed at. Here's a really cool story about one of our fellow Americans doing just that. Click here. A reader from last week wants to know why we don't cover WWE. Well, if this said person wants to cover it for us...go right ahead!! I'm sure some of our Troops love the WWE. |
