Poll: Stabenow continues to lead Bouchard in Senate race (Stabenow up 13)

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow continues to lead Republican Mike Bouchard by double digits, according to a poll released Thursday.

Forty-eight percent of the 600 likely voters polled Tuesday and Wednesday said they would vote for Stabenow, while 35 percent backed Bouchard, the Oakland County sheriff. Fifteen percent were undecided.

About 2 percent said they support one of three other candidates — Leonard Schwartz of the Libertarian Party, David Sole of the Green Party and Dennis FitzSimons of the U.S. Taxpayers Party.

The poll was conducted by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA for The Detroit News and TV stations WXYZ in Southfield, WOOD in Grand Rapids, WILX in Lansing and WJRT in Flint. It had a sampling error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Bouchard, in Lansing to discuss part of his plan for improved airline security, said he doesn't put much stock in polls.

"The polls will be all over the map," Bouchard said, noting that other recent surveys have him closer to Stabenow. "Polls have not been terribly predictive in Michigan."

Stabenow campaign manager Brent Colburn also did not read much into the latest poll.

"We aren't taking anything for granted in this campaign," he said in a statement.

Bouchard has campaigned primarily on economic and homeland security issues.

Bouchard on Thursday detailed a plan that would use law enforcement officers traveling for work or personal business as an extra security measure on airplanes, supporting what he called the "overextended" federal air marshal program.

Although the gap has closed somewhat in this race, time is running out for Bouchard. "Dangerously Incompetent" Debbie is a heavy favorite for a second term.

Except for NJ, what Senate races are breaking towards the GOP? Seems to me that almost every relatively close race is going to the dems.

7.1% unemployment, highest in the nation.

The socialists will turn out in numbers to protect their investment in Heavy Debbie. Probably good news for Granholm too.

Even New Jersey is turning back to Menendez. 5 of the last 7 polls have Menendez leading between 1 and 11 points, after a long stretch where Kean led. (Zogby, FDU, Gallup, Mason-Dixon, and Rutgers have Menendez up ... Strategic Vision and Marist have Kean up)

Bouchard has campaigned primarily on economic and homeland security issues.

If he's campaigning I don't know where it is...I don't even get calls from the party asking for help or money. (I'm getting both for the governor's race.)

Well looks like all the sheep are eating the Klinton War Room crap....

All Foley's fault, All Bush's fault, all Cheney's fault, all Rummy's fault, anything to do with Bush and his administration is at fault...

You see, people can't think for themselves, they have to 'lead' to the watering trough...or so the libs think, and I'm begining to wonder how many pubbies are in that class....

EPIC/MRA oversamples Democrats. They had Granholm 15 points over Posthumus in our last Governor's race, and she only won by 3.

I don't think Bouchard is going to have the cash to close this, but it will be closer than 13.

You nailed it. I'm starting (no I believe it now) to realize that it is the RINO factor. Those who have managed to hold onto their jobs are going to protect the status quo even though it is hurting them in the long run.

They falsely assume that these elected nitwits have anything to do with them still being employed. I can understand it in the big cities but in the suburbs, exurbs, and rural? There aren't enough libs to tilt the scale, period. It's the cancerous 'mush in the middle' that is the great danger to our nation and both parties pander to it rather than stick to an agenda.

The power of the presstitutes and mediaWHORES still exist! We can say this or that, but it all boils down to the freaking media having to much damn power to do as they please without EVER being accountable for! The Dan Rather's episode was a lucky shot. I DESPISE THE MEDIA, NO I hate them with a passion!!

"If he's campaigning I don't know where it is..."

Bingo.

I finally saw a Bouchard ad today, but it was on Fox Sunday, and therefore 95% of the people who saw it were already gonna vote for him. Furthermore, it said NOTHING about Bouchard, but was simply an attack on Stabenow. A totally ineffective ad in a place where Bouchard had the vote wrapped up already... jeez.

Hard to believe that Michigan voters are that clueless, but I guess they are.

Michigan is lost. For example, Hamtramck used to be a Polish-American town. Now you hear the muezzin calling prayer from the mosque. Of five city council members, two are Abdul Algazali and Shahab Ahmed. Republicans are fighting a rear guard action in Michigan.

I've got a new slogan for you - It's Detroit, stupid. And Flint, and Saginaw. Big time liberal Dem cesspools like this are hard to overcome, and for those of us who live here it's pretty frustrating.

BINGO! That's what I've been saying for years... There are so many threads on FR that proclaim the MSM as dying, dinosaur media, etc... It's just childish, or ignorant. The MSM is more influential now than ever... They've become more emboldened and brazen, now that they can say FOX and talk radio are conservative...

SCUMBAGS...

Anytime an incumbent draws under 50% is good news.

And I wouldn't give these liberal polls any credibility.

I've seen precious little from him since he won the primary -a couple of ads, no mailings, no phone calls asking for volunteers/money, nothing. His ads are ggood, but they should have been running the first week in September, not waiting until October to get running. I'm afraid that it's going to be too little, too late, and we get stuck with Debbie for another six years *shudder*
