The Foley set-up starts to break open

The Foley set-up starts to break open

Drudge has a world exclusive, as most readers already know.

According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal… Developing…

They have to get up a lot earlier in the morning to pull this sort of thing off these days. The MSM may be dumb but we aren’t.

Present state of play—the Dems and CREW are implicated; ABC’s Brian Ross has his own Rathergate, the FBI and Ethics Committee are going to find out which Dems were involved and CREW will probably lose their tax exempt status. The Dems have shown themselves to be perfectly willing to use homophobia to win when they have no saleable platform or issues; the Republican base is charged up and once again Soros turned his gold into Dem dross.

Foley will become a living example of the Dems’ willingness to smear a homosexual for gain and will write a book, go on Oprah and make a mint. He will be this year’s wronged victim. Mark my words A fit ending to a sordid smear.

Update:

Blogger Betsy Newmark predicted that the IM’s would be found to be a a prank with teenagers leading Foley on.

When I did the GOPUSA podcast on Tuesday evening with Lorie Byrd, John Hawkins, and Ed Morrissey, I ventured a guess about the circumstances of the dirty IM conversations that Mark Foley had participated in. I said that, based on my experience teaching teenagers, that the dialogue really seemed to be to sound like a kid sitting around with his buddies having a good ol’ giggle about leading on the perverted Congressman. I’d been talking with a couple of other teachers about this whole scandal and we’d all agreed that that was what it sounded like to us. The kid was definitely leading Foley on. It just had the ring of a kid playing a prank that he could share with other kids and laugh at. Thanks to John Hawkins for transcribing my comment.

“Foley is a complete sleaze, he has got a real problem, but let me say, this kid is not an innocent kid. You read those things, he’s leading him on. He’s like a little Lolita. And what I picture, I picture this kid, he’s in his dorm room, or wherever he is, and he has got 3 or 4 friends on and they’re just giggling themselves silly. “Look what I got this Congressman to say.” That’s why he saved these IM messages, so he could send it around to all his friends and they could laugh at this poor, middle-aged Congressman who is so pitiful and has got some real sick problems. It just seems to be the type of thing that teenaged boys would have thought was so funny. This isn’t some kid who is innocently appalled at what he’s getting. He’s leading that guy on.”

I completely agree. Career politicians are ripe for the picking.

What we see in Washington today is a far cry from public service.

Foley will be away for at least a month...re-hab rules are strict.

Rehab is a joke.

While we all laugh about this turn of events, it is important to remember that the Democrats are ignoring it all, and proceeding as if nothing new has happened on the campaign trail and in ads and press conferences. They are issuing repeated lies and libels, and are scoring major points against GOP House incumbents. Much of what is being said is actionable in a court of law as provably false. But they will worry about that after they win.

I agree with Professor Turley, the page program should end.

I think I agree with you, but think about the implications of that. The greatest nation in history, governed by creeps so low that we cannot trust our adolescents around them. Mind-boggling. To what depths have we descended?

But Foley is still disgusting.
That's what it comes down to for me. He was the problem, and now he's gone. If anyone else knows it can be proven they knew, they need to step down immediately so we can move on. Otherwise, this will continue until election day as ABC reported 3 more pages came forward today.

Question for anyone: DH heard that a GOP staffer was the one who leaked the IMs or emails. Anyone heard this? Would that be Fordham? All I can find is this search that turns up a bunch of liberal leaning sites. Thanks!

Here is the proper spelling for future reference: Berserkeley.

Everybody knows that's the correct spelling. I don't know what the argument is about.

Are you in OK? Why did Istook hire these two? Have they endangered his election?

I saw phikapmom's posts on this, but I don't have a good sense of just what these two *operatives* have accomplished re: Istook's campaign.

They all seem to be able to Instant Message. The future is paperless baby.

Apparently alot more work would be done without all cute young things distracting them.

"What we see in Washington today is a far cry from public service."

Totally disgusting! I am sick of the whole bunch in DC. They are all, Dims and GOP, sharks and/or carps. They are just not serious people doing the the serious work of the government. Stupid, lurid scandals and finger pointing and muckraking are totally out of order when our country is in need of serious, hardworking people who understand the threats we face now. (However I will still vote GOP in November) What choice do I have?

The page program should definitely end ! Navigating D.C. safely these days is difficult enough for an adult. . .it's absurd to believe that any 16 year old is savvy enough, no matter how cosmopolitan they may THINK they are.

I agree with the FReepers who suggest that Hastert should just end the program for pages at the national level.

They could continue to serve their political internships at the state level. At least, in most instances, the "children" would be closer to home.

BTW, what kind of parent would even consider sending a child off to D.C. ?
