Pending Hastert's news conference, Fox is reporting that internal Repub polls indicate that the Foley matter is destroying any chance of the Repubs keeping the House, "and maybe the Senate as well." Breaking as we await the Hastert news congerence. Fox reports that the entire country is riveted by this matter and it has "blown away" all other issues for the upcoming mid-terms.
I have a hard time believing this manufactured scandal is having this effect, but Fox seems to be shooting straight on this. Perhaps the dealy in the Hastert new conference is due to furious fighting over whether he needs to resign as speaker today. With no other candidate standing-by, Fox notes that Congress would be required to re-convene to elect a new speaker, keeping this mess in the lime light right up to election day. This ambush was apparently very well planned.
Fox News is just as scandal mongering as the rest of them. They have blown this story all out of proportion. If Hassert resigns, we truly ARE sunk. I am getting sick and tired of our leaders giving up seats to the dimocraps. We need some spine, bad.
FOX give us the poll to breakdown NOW.
Surely if your "source" doesn't have a private agenda to destroy hastert, they can produce a copy of it right? Surely if it's real and accurate they can produce evidence right?
Give me the damn poll Fox.
I find it hard to believe that voters in Iowa or Ohio are going to turn out a congressman that brings home the bacon because some pervert from Florida couldn't control his unnatural urges.
Liberals in the big cities think that way, not in flyover country.
Imagine someone who is already disappointed in the party because of the gay issue. This adds to the disappointment. How does our party even have such people?
I don't doubt that a 'Publican pollster reported worries about hastert; lots of people have been tired of him for quite some time & it isn't particularly a result of this latest scandal. (Following right behind the collapse of the Fitzmas celebrations and right before an election).
Fox's programming of late seems to feature one of the news readers' standing up republican positions (as a question) and allowing a couple of dem mouthpieces to denounce them. That's certainly what I've been seeing on Foley; Edie gets worked up and the guests go right ahead with their speeches.
JMHO
Maybe someday the GOP will grow a f_______ set of balls and learn to fight back.
And just what evangelicals does Scarborough know. I hardly believe that:
So, are we to really believe that:
1 - WHEN A REPUBLICAN ACTS LIKE A D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T
2 - the disappointed Republicans will then go to the the voting box and vote DEMOCRAT?
Doesn't make sense to me.
I think it's either hype or somebody is giving disinformation to Fox to make the Dems overconfident about the election. I don't think this Foley issue will have much effect on House or Senate races. Republican Brian Bilbray won Randy Cunningham's house seat right after Cunningham was forced to resign. The voters understand that these scandals are relatively isolated incidents in both parties.
I would not say it is worthless. It is a true snapshot of the moment, which we all know is subject to change.
It is the direction of the change before the election that is critical. But the snapshot is correct for the moment. If you don't accept this, then you have your head in the political sand. The question is how to change that direction. You cannot change the moment.
The divisions in the base are wide and numerous. The polling by RNC operatives indicate the religious right has split off the base on this issue. It is not at all surprising. They have stayed at home before and the Dems know it.
We shall see just how politically smart they are, and what the RNC does to get them back in the wagon.
Actually, GOPedo Foley was a backdoor man.
OK I am once again waving the Bullshit Flag.
Sorry, this is having no effect outside of the beltway, or on sites like FR where the sky is falling crowd always freaks out at the least little thing.
Here are the results of my poll. I have talked to over 30 people so far this week (Family, coworkers, friends) -- all of these people are intelligent and INFORMED professionals, most in the US Air Force, Computer Information Industry or Medical..
The results of said informal poll :
NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAD HEARD OF OR KNEW WHO MARK FOLEY WAS! NONE! ZERO! ZIP! NOT A SAUSAGE!
WHen I explained what was happening every single one of them had a reaction of "SO?", and if they did have a comment it was on the lines of "HE resigned? Good. Glad he wasn;t my congressman"
IOW - Out here in the HEART of REDSTATE AMERICA this is having absolutely no effect what-so-ever.
Spare me, Fox is now doing some round table BS crap for this bogus overplayed story.
I already did that monthes ago. I get my news from Rush and FR.
No, they stay home....
It results in the same thing however.
I disagree. This point out what those who think gays are perverts have been saying all along. They are sitting back and saying "See I told you so" to the whole country.
Wasn't Cheney interviewed this morning and he was quoted as saying we keep both houses. He apparently wasn't too concerned. I'm sure if the Republicans were waving the French Flag of surrender, he'd have said something different.
