FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- 40/29 News, along with its media partners, The Morning News and Magic 107.9FM, are hosting a gubernatorial debate tonight (October 4th). For viewers not in the Fort Smith or Fayetteville markets, the debate will be livestreamed online at thehometownchannel.com.
Republican candidate Asa Hutchinson and Democratic candidate Mike Beebe will answer questions from a media panel.
The media panel will consist of Craig Cannon of 40/29 News, who will also serve as moderator. Joining Cannon on the panel will be Regional Editor for The Morning News Brenda Blagg and News Director for Magic 107.9FM Jess Smith.
The two candidates for Arkansas governor have agreed on our proposal outlining the format and guidelines for the debate, said 40/29 News Director Mike Courington.
At this time, 40/29 and its media partners have chosen to only invite the two leading candidates in this race. This decision is based on the latest public-polling data and a careful review of campaign activity from all four candidates on the ballot.
The debate will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in the main auditorium of the University of Arkansas Center for Continuing Education in downtown Fayetteville.
The auditorium audience will primarily consist of University of Arkansas students. The debate is not open to the public; however, 40/29 News will televise the debate live and KEZA will simulcast the debate on Magic 107.9FM.
Were thrilled to be a part of this debate. Its a great way for our readers to better understand where the two leading candidates stand on important issues facing Arkansas, said The Morning News Editor Rusty Turner.
Were excited this debate will give everyone in northwest Arkansas and the River Valley an opportunity to see these candidates interact and debate the issues, said 40/29 News Director Mike Courington. Were committed to making sure our viewers are informed when they step into the voting booth on Nov. 7.
This is one of only three planned debates Beebe and Hutchinson will take part in prior to the November general election. The others will take place in Little Rock and Jonesboro.

Arkansas ping!
I've seen some of Hutchinson's ads.
I can't believe how he is saying he is against illegal immigration, considering he was pro-illegals during his stint with HSD. Several times as HSD UnderSecretary, he bragged at returning 300 illegal per month back to Mexico.
Hutchinson had little credibility on border issues or illegal immigration issues.
I plan on voting for Asa, but I'm not really going to volunteer for his campaign that much. I do know that Mike Beebe will make illegal immigration worse in Arkansas.
Keep Arkansas Legal, a new immigration reform group in the Central Arkansas area, will meet at the Roosevelt Thompson Libray from 3:00pm-6:00pm Saturday October 7th (Terry Library was booked). We will discuss what to do for the election and the upcoming legistlative session. We will then have a general discussion about illegal immigration.

We also have a volunteer opportunity. The Lagrone campaign has given a neighborhood in Chenal called The Village to do door to door campaigning. I will have a map of that area from the Lagrone Campaign later. Most door campaigns start at 10:00am, I would like to start ours at 11:00am and then go to lunch at 1:00pm.

Asa has a 'Comprehensive Plan'.
lol
Probably GW's 'Comprehensive Plan'
BUT, now I consider the real possibility that ASA! has really seen the light....
Besides, I don't trust BeeBee. We're going to vote for ASA! because we know he would be better for this State than the alternative..
sw
Just got back from picking up kids at church and watching the closing statements.
Has anyone gotten their call from the AARP yet? They've called here twice already with their bias talking points. Both times when asked if they could send me information on the candidates position's I made a point to say they could but that we don't vote for 'rats in this household. The caller said "thank you" and hung up! Sheesh, wonder who they support.....duh!
